Crossbow

Swampyou 11 March 2005 22:37:06
I live in KY and it was just passed that crossbows are legal for all of
archery season.

I was wondering what is the correct method in zeroing one. Is it the same as
a bow.

I have hunted with a bow/muzzleloader/shotgun/rifle and want to try a
crossbow.

Any help would be thankful.

I have a Horton and they give specifics even including a video tape. With
Horton regular sights there is a yardage adjustment knob. Sighting in is
normal for a bow although there are no adjustments such as moving nocks etc.
With the scope there are stadia for 20, 30, 40 etc yards and you zero scope
for 20 yards as you would a normal rifle scope and the other yardages just
fall in. Besides improved accuracy, one of the best things about a crossbow
is very little motion is involved (like drawing) as deer approaches into
range. Also remember even at 300 + arrow speeds, there is still
considerable drop versus a rifle.
I also advise getting a drawing mechanism. I can draw my 175 lb Horton but
up in a stand in tight quarters the crank is needed. When I started
shopping for a crossbow, none of the local shops had them and it would have
been special order.
So, I mail ordered one from Cabela's that was on sale - basically last years
model - works great.
