Interesting vs. Exciting Frankie 02:36:44
So many posts point to how exciting lay-out d's are and full field I/O
sidearms are, etc.

I don't know, they get old after awhile, especially if the D comes with
clobbering the opponent or the huck comes off of a non-called traveling
violation.

In any event, there's virtually no talk about how interesting the game is.
That's because it really isn't very interesting. Exciting is for the
instant gratification, short attention span, SMS crowd. Interesting is for
cerebral types. It's the game within a game. The chess match being played
live out on the field. It's virtually non-existent in the Ultimate NG.
Ultimate Frisbee is a boring game to watch.

Opponent of Ultimate TL (http://www.dischoops.com/ultimateTL.htm) have
blindly claimed that these rules will make the game less exciting while
completely missing the point that all these rules will make for a much more
interesting game. Frankly, raising the bar on what players are allowed to
get away with will make for both a more interesting game and a more exciting
game.

Ultimate NG is for pussies. Ultimate TL is for serious athletes. Which are
you?

Just finished watching the Xtreme and SStock races. What the Hell?
In SStock they ran into lapped traffic 3.5 laps into the race! At
that rate they could lapped some of those guys FOUR times.
Something's wrong there.

Sorry to see Jake lose the race because of the red flag. Good to see
Josh win though. With the coming changes in AMA racing this isn't the
time to have an off year.

Spies did a good job considering. But Matt looked completely wiped
after race two. Now that I've seen all the weekend's races I can
check the web for more info on what was going on with his health.

the difference??

I think all of the raquets are largely carbon, the titanium ones are a
composite material.

Seriously the only way to judge a raquet is to get on court with one
and try it.

Go to your centre and find what racquets they have and try a couple
there.

Harvester Western, 3/8/08 Paul - xxx 13:58:14
Competed in this tournament on Suinday, scored a PB of 704 ... really
well chuffed to get over 700 for a Western. (4 doz @ 60yds, 4 doz @ 50
yds, 864 maximum)

http://www.harvester-archers.co.uk/Home.html

Strangely I scored well at 60 yds, with a 348 and as expected a bit
better overall at 50, with a 356, but my shooting at 50 was far worse
with more strays. At 60 I only got three blues, at 50 I got a black
and a white too!! Mind, I also had a couple of 52 ends, one of which
was a Judge call for linecutting otherwise it would have been a 54.
(As always, what would have been ...;))

Top Recurve scored 848 ... which I think is World Class shooting and
was the same score as top compound ... ;)

Re: Newbie and breathing Madelaine 18:26:49
 d.s. wrote:
After a life-long "discomfort" with water (I CAN swim, i.e. make the
motions in the water and get across a pool, but almost drowned a
couple of times, including during a swimming lesson when I was six),
I've been taking swimming lessons. Where I take lessons now, the pool
is two damned short to get more than one or two breaths before I hit
the other side, so it's not the best place to work on my breathing
technique or find out what problems I'll run into.
Yesterday I went to another pool which had nice long lanes. I tried
freestyle, but found myself struggling with the breathing. Tried
breathing every third stroke, but didn't seem to be getting enough air
for my body needs. I tried side-kicking for a while, and really
seemed to need a lot of air. I do dancing, hiking, etc, but not much
other aerobic workouts, so I'm not sure what is:
Need for aerobic conditioning
Poor breathing technique
Anxiety or panic
I was in the water maybe an hour. At first I couldn't even swim a
quarter of the length and I'd have to stop. It was embarassing, but I
kept at it. I got up to half the length, then finally got all the
way. These attempts were punctuated by 10 minute breathing rests at
the end of the pool.
I've bought a snorkel to get me over the hump with the aerobic
conditioning in the water, but I don't want to end up depending on
that, as my whole point is to get comfortable in the water, and I
won't always have a snorkel with me.
One problem I see is that I haven't exhaled fully by the time I need
to take another breath, so I have to exhale and then inhale, which
doesn't always work. I haven't tried forceful exhalation underwater,
but I guess that's next.
Don't know yet, but I figure I can do at least 4 laps before tiring,
maybe more, but that's just a guess, based on my general
conditioning. I can do 10-14 mile hikes. For what it's worth, I can
hold my breath underwater for 50 seconds, maybe more. Years ago I
could do it for two minutes or maybe more.
So, not sure if I need more air right now, or my technique is bad (it
is) or what. What can I do to diagnose this?
Sounds like anxiety--you seem fit enough. I had a drowning experience
as a toddler, later became a competitive swimmer, and STILL years later
had trouble getting back into the groove of breathing, being underwater,
etc. It took more than a year to really get over it.

While you are getting up to speed, you should be breathing kind of
normally (not your deepest breath) and breathe every stroke. This will
reduce the anxiety, since it is only a second until you breathe again.
Be sure to blow out the air underwater and make bubbles. Anxiety can
make you hold your breath, so you may be alternating between holding it
and pushing it out very hard, which in turn will make you even more
anxious, which could make you confused about whether you are breathing
out or in, etc. Calm breathing will keep you calm.

Something that helped me was getting good at breast stroke before
getting good at crawl--the up and down of breast stroke is like the
bobbing people do for breathing drills.

Keep at it, and it will come to you.

Where is "KER Self Solar Energy" on the web? Just Bob 08:44:01
Saw both Yamaha teams at Laguna were running a sponsor with letters reading
"KER Self Solar Energy" but when I google this I cannot find such a company.
And when I use google.it the only relevant thing I can find is announcement
of the sponsorship on drumel-kart.it.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it's related to "Kenitic Energy Release" process but I would
like to find out more.

In a couple of weeks Beijing will turn into a party town and Sanlitun
is predicted to be the epicenter of the Olympic night events. The
South China Morning Post has however reported that the bar owners in
the area were asked to refuse service to black patrons.

Yeah, right. Like the reporter pointed out this is highly unlikely for many
reasons. China has been cultivating friendships with many African countries
and is unlikely to want to insult them. A huge percentage of the athletes
are either African or African-XXXX (fill in country name). Discriminating
would be very embarassing to the Chinese government. Something Asians tend
to avoid, strongly. Economically, it would be a disaster. When you are a
merchant, the only color you see is the color of the customer's money.

Brands WSB - Spoilers Julian Bond 09:51:03
Superb 1st race. Marred somewhat by Haga sliding off.

Usual chaos in WSS at Brands. Rea came good again, but Chris Jones ended
up lying on the track unconscious after a vicious high side in
Clearways. He apparently woke up in the helicopter so lets hope he's ok.

The second race had its moments but fell a bit flat as various people's
tyre choices didn't work. Biaggi did what is probably the fastest bit of
grass tracking we've seen for a while on the exit of Graham Hill.

And Kiyo is having a great time. Wins Suzuka last weekend and then gets
the double this weekend. I have this vague memory of somebody who should
remain nameless being pretty harsh on him earlier in the year as a
typical example of a BSB refugee who was doing nothing in WSB. Time to
think again?

Both WSB and BSB are going to a "devil take the hindmost" final
qualifying to replace Superpole. Really not sure if that's a good thing
or not.

USA TV Coverage listings Don Del Grande 20:45:29
I was going to post a listing by sport of all of the scheduled time
blocks for coverage in the USA here. However, I discovered that the
NBC Olympics website already has this, if you look hard enough:

1. Go to http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv_and_online_listings/index.html
(you might have to include a ZIP code so it knows what time zone
to use)

2. Where it says "By Sport", select a sport. (Where it says "By
Time" and "By TV Channel", it should say "Choose".)

3. There is a line of boxes with each day of the Olympics listed;
on the far left, click on the one that says "All Days".

4. Once you select "All Days", you can then change the sport, and
it will include the listing for every day.

Be warned that some of the TV broadcast blocks are 12 hours long (for
example, most of the ones on MSNBC), and they don't make it clear
exactly when the selected sport will air within that block.
