4 cycle car carrier

 I am looking for a way of transporting 4 cycles on my car. I want to avoid
using roof bars etc due to height of car and the fact that this would cause
excessive noise due to design of car. Options appear to be either tailgate
mounted and I am looking at an Avenir Nevada for Ј60, or towbar mounted with
either Thule system which looks best but very expensive or cheaper hang on
style, I don't have a towbar yet so again this would be an additional cost.
What are the groups thoughts, concerned as do not want to damage the car in
any way, also concerned that 4 bikes on a rack would be close and could
either scratch each other or contact the car ?
