Pretty much an automatic selection, but by no means to disparage her performance, it's somewhat of a disgrace that a 49 year old can win the National Road Championship and National Time Trial Championship by Three and One Minute respectively. -- Davey Crockett - Driving a Stake through the Heart of the Politically Correct http://i247.photobucket.com/albums/gg146/sylviastolz/freesylvia.jpg

| 25" Raleigh Kodiak Touring Bike Tom Kunich 03:22:23 |
| | 25" Raleigh Kodiak Touring Bike
Here is the king of production touring bikes.
This was made only for a few years some 25 or so years ago. It is the best mass production touring bike I've seen.
Shimano derailers, friction shifters, cranks and bottom bracket 27" wheels - very easy to find tires in out-of-the-way hardware stores in the middle of nowhere.
The paint is well worn but still usable. The bike still looks OK and it would tour better than the new touring bikes since it is built for any kind of terrain (which is why they named it Kodiak).
Either you know what this bike is or you ought to. It is a GREAT touring bike.

Astana would still be in the Tour de France, but Oracle would be out. This 2008 decision was not an anti-Alexandre Vinokourov-based decision. It was an anti-Bruyneel-Armstrong decision. If they want to play games like kids, then play games, but the record will show that ASO and the sport of cycling was prosperous during our time winning seven editions. And the record will show that, since then, it has not done well. And I'm not taking any credit, I'm just saying, for the record, the facts are what they are."

| Special Skewer for Trainer? Hell And High Water 23:42:16 |
| | Took my bike to the shop and the tech replaced my rear skewer.
I didn't realize he had done this until this morning, when I tried to put the bike into the trainer.
My old skewer looked like this:
http://bikemart.com/images/library/catalogs/soc/prodl/WT1524.jpg
The new one is nicer looking, black, Shimano, but it seems slightly too large to fit into the cup of my trainer.
I'm hoping he still has my old skewer, but if not, do I need a special skewer for the trainer?
I thought all types would fit the cup, but apparently not...
TIA,
-Bob

With the right bottom bracket would this make a good crank for SS or fixed gear use?

I'm a relative newbie to cycling but not biking. I was talking about my hobby at work this morning and a couple of older fellas (50s) mentioned that touring bikes were no longer being made and that they missed them. So what are they to young guys like us? Are they basically road bikes or is there something I'm missing? Touring bikes are still being made but you need to special order them most of the time:
Differences are usually little more than shorter top tube so that you sit more upright, longer wheelbase so that packs on forks and rear racks don't get in the way of your pedaling and much stronger tubes in order to carry the additional 100 or so lbs of a fully loaded touring setup.

That's an order of magnitude greater than the difference you're On a route that I often do, a 3 kg difference in mass would either mean around a minute slower per hour for the same power -- or a 5 watt increase in power for the same time. However, those 5 watts would be very noticeable. Most of us wouldn't need instrumentation at all to notice the difference between riding at FTP - 2.5w vs. FTP + 2.5w. FTP? What does File Transfer Protocol have to do with physiology? (I really have no idea what you mean by FTP). Functional threshold power. Thanks.

| Hot Spot Question J Jones 21:22:32 |
| | I've been using Speedplay Zero pedals and SIDI Ergo shoes for about 4 years, but late in the season last year I started getting terrible hot spots on my left foot after anywhere from 10-30 miles ridden. I replaced the in-sole with a gel-based Dr. Scholls insole and that helped me finish the year last year without much discomfort. However, the hotspots are back with a vengeance this summer. My questions are:
1. Should I just replace the insole, and plan on doing it every 6 months or so? 2. Are my shoes, pedals, or cleats the issue (i.e., are any/all just 'worn out')? 3. Should I be looking at other things - my geometry/fit has not changed at all in 3 years.
Any help anybody can recommend is appreciated. BTW: I'm 6'4" - 195lbs and like the speeplay pedals due to their 15 degrees float (easy on the knees). Thanks! Jeff

Therefore they punish themselves, and are pretty sour about it too -- check how few smiling road cyclists you meet out on your ride. But then, who ever So? People climb mountains or sail or row solo across Atlantic too because they try to conquer over some perceived weakness in them. What exactly is wrong is that? And why do you feel it is necessary that they would need some "proper" motivations - who cares? Ride and let ride. S'not about conquering a weakness. Andre's post is nonsense - perhaps jealousy of those who can and do those things he wished he could, perhaps mere trolling. Riding the bike is fun, riding it more is more fun, riding it up and down big hills is even better.

I found two local dealers and neither one could get the bikes running for more than a minute or so. They claimed the batteries had been on chargers but they wouldn't go more than a few hundred feet.
This industry seems doomed to fail. I hope the next generation of electric bikes and dealers are better.

| Just an FYI....Atlanta Police stalk Critical Mass Twitchell 19:05:21 |
| |
http://www.ireport.com/docs/DOC-40338
After many months of peaceful coexistence, Atlanta police decided to pursue and ticket the monthly Critical Mass bike ride. While other cities have had much more confrontational episodes between police and Critical Mass, Atlanta has usually been a very hospitable town for this loosely organized pro-bicycle demonstration. After an article about Critical Mass appeared in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution after last month's ride, there was a sudden, visible shift in APD policy. A phalanx of police was waiting for the riders at Centennial Olympic Park and dogged them all the way through Midtown, Virginia-Highlands, Little Five Points, and the Old Fourth Ward for an hour. While things didn't get particularly ugly between police and the Mass this time, the sudden interest of the law may mark the beginning of the end of a long-standing friendly (and peaceful) coexistence.

| Knee pain & Saddle Height BCDrums 18:24:28 |
| | Lately I have had some pain in one knee, located behind the knee cap. It doesn't hurt while I'm riding, but rather when I'm climbing stairs. I'm wondering if it might be that my saddle is too low or high (although I haven't made any adjustments lately).
Has anyone had a similar problem?
