Does anyone have instructions online for removing an 8-speed Shimano Ultegra cassette? I have the lockring tool and chainwhips. It's just been about 5 years since I've tried to use them so I forgot. TIA

You also need a wrench. Use the chainwhip (singular) to hold the cassette in place, and the wrench and lockring tool to loosen the lockring.
Keep some Band-aids nearby for the inevitable bashing of the knuckles into the spokes.

Hold the low gear by putting your chain tool on it oriented like the drive chain. Unscrew the lockring with your splined tool and a wrench, anticlockwise.
The lockring shouldn't be overly tight - there's a torque rating stamped on it usually, 400k/cm - so unless someone leaned on it, they spin off easily. Grease the thread of the new one.

The lockring shouldn't be on that tight. Use the QR skewer to keep the>tool in place while loosening the lockring.>
You can dispense with the chainwhip by jamming a screwdriver through>the spokes into the holes in the back of the cassette. It sounds nasty,>but so far my wheels are none the worse for wear.
I've got an old chain nailed to a board. Roll the wheel on, wrap the chain and use the leverage of the wheel.
