Just out of curiousity, why are you reluctant to switch to clipless pedals? ------------------------------------------------------------ Hi, Well, I guess I'm a bit old school on this aspect of road bikes, I've been riding road bikes for over 30 years, and of those Bikes that I have had over the years (1 Columbia, 3 Schwinns, 2 Gitane, 1 Motobecane), all had Cage Pedals, with Toe Clips, and Straps.
I am so used to using these, and happy using these, that I don't feel any desire, or need to switch to clipless pedals. Maybe one day I'll come out of the stone age, (hee hee) but for now, the Campy Record Superleggeri Pedals w/clips on my Bianchi, and Paramount suit my needs fine. Mark D.
Hi all, A few weeks ago, I had some spare time, and decided to stop over by the LBS here, and see the boys. (they are a Trek+Specialized Dealer)
After chatting for some minutes, I decided to browse around, and see if any new goodies had arrived for the new season.
I've been sort of deperate to find myself a nice lightweight low cut Riding Shoe that would work well with my Campy Record Cage Pedals/Straps, and not break the bank.
I spotted these Specialized low cut shoes called Taho. Listed price was $69, and the dealer took off another 10%, so out the door with these was about $64 w/tax. These appear to be an ATB shoe, yet don't seem so agressive looking, and clunky. (Yes they are a little less streamlined than a full blown Road/Racing shoe such as a Sidi, But I don't compete, I'm just a recreational rider that was looking for a good old fashioned shoe)
After 3 weeks of use, I am very happy with these shoes. They are comfortable, flexible enough for walking, yet the shoes offer much better support, stiffness, and efficiency over standard sneakers/gyms. Also seem to have much better ventilation, as I noticed my feet weren't burning hot like they had been in standard sneakers.
They mate very well with the Campy Cage Pedals, which was critical for my usage, as I'm sort of "Old School", and reluctant to switch to clipless.
If any of you are looking for a decent shoe for cage pedals at a reasonable cost, give these a look. Mark D.
