"Left - Right" marks on *italian* BB - Why?

Konstantin Shemyak 8 March 2005 13:22:24
I understand that on bottom brackets that have different threads
on different sides "Left <-> Right" mark has its meaning.
But why is it also stamped on standard Shimano UN 52 italian bottom bracket,
which has same right-hand threads on both sides? Is there any reason
why it should not be installed the opposite way?

Thanks in advance,
Konstantin.

The "fixed" side of the BB goes to the side of the chainrings (right).

Some frame makers assume that a cartridge BB with a flange only on the
right side will be used, and only square off the right side of the BB
shell. (Of course, some don't even do that much.)

Works fine either direction
