Nova Scotia touring info

Greetings from the Annapolis Valley, Nova Scotia.

The following may be of interest to those planning to bicycle
tour in Nova Scotia.

The Scotia Prince ferry service from Portland Maine to Yarmouth NS is
NOT running this year. There are problems with the ferry terminal in
Portland. This ferry was a convenient way to get from New England to
Nova Scotia. I have taken it twice, and never called ahead. It would be
quite a shock to show up at the ferry terminal and find out that there
is no boat! There is still a ferry from Bar Harbor to Yarmouth (a fast
"CAT" boat- 3 hours)

A little less of a problem: the nice general store at Grafton, corner
of Brooklyn St and Black Rock Road is closed. Brooklyn St is a nice
route through the Annapolis Valley and there is now only one store on
the whole 50 km stretch (at Somerset, the corner of the Berwick road)

In the Wolfville area: the bridge over Gaspereau River at Melanson is
still closed. This is the best way out of Wolfville to the east, via
the Gaspereau Valley. Coming out of town, up Maple Ave, there is no detour
sign on until just before the bridge, which means going all the way back
up the hill again! Best way out of town now is Gaspereau Ave which is a
bigger, steeper hill (I climb it at least once a day)

I have some suugestions for bicycle routes at:
