I'm looking for ideas/suggestions. I'd like to take a @ week (budget) tour in a relatively flat area this September. I've already ridden in Holland and Croatia; I'm particularly interested in Eastern Europe or maybe Northern Germany. I'm by myself, hence my desire for a group (although if anyone wants to join me we could form our own group).
Have any of you taken any interesting tours that you'd recommend? There are so many good ones out there when I search the web, I'm overwhelmed. I'm a 42 year old woman with two knee replacements -- as much as I love walking, I'm not good at it anymore, but I can cycle all day. So I've decided my traveling will have to center around cycling from now on. Please don't try to convince me the glory of riding alone -- I want to be with others and I don't want to tote luggage. I like a shower at the end of the day and a real bed (but it doesn't have to be fancy, like Backroads).
For flat, scenic, rides. I'd highly recommend the Mosel Valley in Germany. From Koblenz to as far up as you want to go, I think the fun part is from Koblenz to about 200- 250 km upstream up to about BernKastel. Koblenz is where the Mosel runs into the Rhein. Depending on how hard and how far you want to ride, there is enough there for a week.
The paved trail is along the river/road so it is very gradual and mostly flat. Side trips off the valley give plenty of opportunities to do climbs.
It is one of the best winemaking regions (white wines) if you're into that sort of thing. All summer there are little local weinfests going on. There are also ferries and a train line that runs along the river in case you get too far and you just want to hop on a boat or a train.
Lots of side trips to castles and such to keep you entertained, great bread/cheese and wine almost anywhere you go.
I'd recommend spending a couple of days in Zell. Burg Eltz (Castle) is a nice hike up the river or a little longer bike ride.
Quite bike friendly, you see a lot of cyclists, but not a lot of traffic.
Given your requirement for flat, the only things I can recommend are along rivers. The Donau (Danube) trail in Southern Germany and the Neckar trail are others in Germany that are long enough to keep you going for a week.
Good Luck,
Asad
A bike path that runs the entire way (well, except for crossings and through villages and so on). "Sarah Banick" <sbanick@NOSPAMmindspring.com> wrote in message news:BeednZxQ2KzNOPPfRVn-2w@comcast.com...> Hey everyone -->

One thing that really appeals to me is the Romanian Delta by bike, althoug
no one else has signed up and they need at least two people (see>

I fully agree. However, since she mentioned that she had an interest in Northern Germany, I would rather recommend the Weser, Hase and Ems rivers. All of them flat and scenic.
Reports of similar bicycle rides at the site mentioned in the .sig.
