You spend the first 3/4 of March bashing Julich, saying he won races "no

Now you predict the guy will win Flanders.

But it was right in line with the previous post predicting Voeckler.

Hey, Steven,

Alas, no -- my 51st-birthday celebration this past Easter Sunday was so
decadent, with massive infusions of strong drink and heaping platters of
deep fat, that I appear to have grown a third buttock (I'm telling the
press that it's the flu, but only the truth will do here on r.b.r.). The
good news is, this will make it harder for Uncle Sammy to figure out which
crease to attack come April 15.

Cheers,

It is possible that the Spanish world champion Oscar Freire will not
participate in the Ronde van Vlaanderen. "It's not going well with the
injury to my bottom." It was last Sunday that Freire won the Brabantse
Pijl, but he hardly rode his bike since. "Monday I could not sit on my
saddle for one minute. Tuesday I trained for an hour but then it started
to rain. Luckily, because I couldn't go on from the pain. If I can't get
some training in for the following days, I will forfeit the Ronde. With
this injury on a saddle for 260 km, it's just too great a risk."

If I was riding more, I would have known even less - since riding the
spin bike while watching the 2004 P-R last week doesn't count as real
riding. IMO Hammond looked like a puppy riding with the big dogs, not
knowing what to do to take a shot at a win.

Will be doing more real riding starting Saturday and will recede into
general cluelessness at that point. Except flashbacks to the 70s and
early 80s. And all they do is leave me with a lot of half-remembered
names (like Roger whats-his-name and Lucien Van Something) and a
strong need to tighten the downtube clamps on a set of Campi
derailleur levers (think that's a flashback to an unwanted shift in
one of the few times I ever really tried to sprint...).

Erik Dekker is in form, but last I heard, he was sick.

I don't believe he is. Last night I saw an interview and he bluntly

tactical disadvantage such an admission may mean. It was from yesterday or

I heard nothing of the sort. According to himself, a hard training at
the Brabantse Pijl (doing too much in the first 140 km, after which it
was over and out) was exactly according to schedule. Wedsnesday was his
last recon of the course, the legs were still a bit heavy from the
weekend, but he's optimistic about Sunday.

Not in the line-up.
With the news of PvP's troubles, I am casting a provisional vote to> Nico Mattan.

PVP has a very light cold, a bit of slime in the throat/nose. "It just
seems logical after two days in the rain. Some call it the illness of
good form, we'll see. Thursday morning I didn't feel good enough to
[start in the last stage of De Panne], I will rest and do some easy
riding in the next days. I'm on the perfect formlevel." He also said:
"Right now my cold is not too bad, but I hope it doesn't get worse." and
"I'm feeling young again! And it's rather serious; I'm already saying I
will ride until 2007, if my wife lets me of course."
