Good going! Not only for riding the stretches you and Rose felt
like riding, but also for not riding the stretch you and Rose
didn't feel like riding.

I know pushing my heavily-laden one-seater uphill can be a task;
sometimes it seems harder than just riding it up, and there's a
powerful urge to get in front and /pull/ the darn thing up.
Makes me feel like I'm coaxing a stubborn ol' pack mule along.

I can only imagine what it's like, pushing a tandem uphill,
although I guess there are two people to do the pushing.

Funny, isn't it, how killer hills become so much less imposing,
once vanquished? Even if only partly vanquished (for the
time being.) I think a lot of it has to do with becoming familiar
with the hill -- e.g: from a distance it might look horribly steep
but once you're on it, it flattens out somewhat. And the false
flats that were once heartbreaking because they looked like the
crest but aren't, become tactical opportunities to remuster one's
resources. I furthermore think an 8% unfamiliar hill can be more
challenging than a 10% familiar one.

...
But it was a great ride home. It makes me> look forward to next Thursday night.

Gonna tackle the Killer Hill again?

BTW, I really enjoyed reading (and vicariously experiencing)
your Daffodil Classic ride report in r.b.r.

cheers,
Tom
