I used to get over 150 on brain.com until they started becoming too
obnoxious. This site let me finish then tried to sell me an on line
college program. I also look at the HTML source code before I <click> on
anything like that since I do know how to program a redirect to click on
one thing and be sent somewhere else. I also have about 150MB of
firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, anti-everything else when I am on
line. I don't think anything is going to get past the line of defense I
have up.

. . . having a little difficulty squaring:

- being referred to as self-righteous, and
- being called inferior by the one *calling me* self-righteous

Quite the conundrum.

Can you shed a little light on that for me, Bill? I'd be grateful.

'YOU' never will get it so I give up, but I can't kill file you either
unless I change readers so here we are. I thought about it for a while
longer and in retrospect I know I did 'ace' it so the only way it could
have gone farther is if it was timed. I got 150 one time at work while I
was talking to my boss and answering the test questions. He knew what I
was doing but as long as I was in the conversation he didn't care.
That was multitasking.

You know, Bill, I used to think of you as mostly idiot. Then I thought of
you as mostly jerk. Then I thought of you as simply childish. But this
thread has explained it all, and it's been like an epiphany; you are
entertainment; you are the comic relief of rec.bicycles.misc.

I'll second that. I was going to leave Iron Bill (do I have to pay
royalties for that?) in his ignorance, but since you broke the ice, I'll
make sure he's heard it twice.

I took the test at the Army induction center in Oakland, Ca. in 1966, so
it may have been different. Why would I cheat on an IQ test just to get
drafted? That is what they accused me of doing.
So I didn't go to Vietnam because they thought I had no respect for
authority and I am not complaining about that odd outcome.

I tend to get too busy thinking about the physics of the universe as we
know it, which means very little at present. I often wonder how
scientists can state with such certainty that the universe is 14 billion
years old because that is the farthest starlight they can see. What if
our universe is only one of many clusters of galaxies in a truly
infinite space? Would they accept that? Could they? The same thing goes
on in the opposite direction, sub atomic. Quarks are supposed to be the
basic building blocks of matter, yet the mass of an electron is far less
than a quark. For any of you with a scientific background, you can see
that I am hinting at mankinds' inability to deal with or understand such
matters, and that we probably never will, so what is the meaning of an
IQ? Somewhat irrelevant, really, as there are carpenters who have IQ's
over 140 and PhDs with IQ's under 120.
It may be something to debate, but is it worth it?
What would Einstein get on a modern test?

If it serves a purpose why not?? I have many a case of epiphany while
riding. Besides, as far as me and this group, would I be here if I was
Forrest Gump? Some of the replies to my 'occasional' trolling have had
me ROTFLMAO.

I'm remembering that some "real" IQ tests used in schools
don't go past 140, or maybe not even that high. The higher the
maximum score, the longer the test needs to be (all else being
equal), and there's really no point to knowing whether
somebody is 135 or 140 or 145 in a school setting. They are
smart; there are other things that will determine how
successful they will be.

You are correct on that, since at the end of second grade I took a test
to see if I should skip third and got a score of 128 and I took it as
just another test/game. Kids at that age aren't that concerned anyway so
there is going to be a large variance. I doubt that a second grade test
could go much beyond 130 or so. It is after all only a number, since the
brightest kid can also be the biggest goof off.

True enough. What's practical and sensible about IQ testing doesn't need to be
particularly precise or to cover all the extremes.

Then there's those of us who just like tests. Some people buy books of TImes of
London crosswords and others grab IQ tests, which tend to be a lot easier.
