Cervelo R2.5

John Kulczycki 2 March 2005 08:19:01
I'm looking at this bike as a replacement for my current ride (aluminum)
along with a similar component package built around a Look KG 386 or 381
frame.

Any thoughts out there on either?

Thanks

John

I didn't know Racer Sportif still sold Cervelo. Duke's does though, I
think they even had an R2.5 frame hanging from the ceiling the last
time I was in there (before Xmas).

John,

I owned an r2.5 for awhile, didn't like it enough to justify the price.
It handled very well (assuming you like the geometry) and was
reasonably stiff in the BB. But, the front end was a bit flex-y when
standing, which bothered me. My biggest complaint was that the area
around the rear brake bridge was too tight and it wouldn't take a
700x28 tire (which is what I run all winter).

For what it's worth...

Take it to rec.bicycles.tech or rec.bicycles.marketplace .

The R2.5 is an amazing bike. Rpost over here and you'll get some opinions
form owners.

When I was shopping around for a road bike a year and a half ago I was
considering an Aquila Titanio Strada from Racer Sportif but I went with a Trek
instead (better warranty and I didn't know much about Aquila or whether they
were any good, where they are made, etc.).

I have bought the odd cycling related item from RS though, mainly tires, a
helmet, shoes. They aren't as customer friendly as, say, Dukes; but they
occasionally have things like tires, etc. on for a better price.

If you shop on price try La Bicicletta ( which you probably have already,
given the proximity to RS ), if you talk to Henry there you can probably
wind up with a better price on anything rs would give you. I posted my
experience with racer sportif on various cycling forums and had feedback of
similar experiences with them; ( a hub was rebuilt with wrong size bearings
etc.). From what I have been able to gather Aquila is built in london ont.
My 1st Aquila strada was a fine steed, light, some bb flex, but a nice
hammer downtown T.O. I prefered my basso for my long-distance rides.
