Success in Utah!

We did it! It is now the law in Utah that drivers have to give
cyclists three feet of clearance "where conditions permit." It ain't
perfect, but in this state, anything is better than nothing.

Given that Utah is the most White, Right, republican state I can think
of that is a good thing. I have some friends who moved there from
California for what should be obvious reasons.
Happy, safer, riding to you.

I like it! Although it may be difficult to enforce, it sends a clear
message. Here in MA, I've yelled "3 feet!" to motorists who passed to
close, claiming (to those who asked) it's the law -- although it's not
-- but it should be!

I'm surprised it was a problem. If I see a young clean cut young guy on
a bike wearing a suit and tie, I can be 99% certain that he's a Mormon
missionary, and I see them right here in non-republican, alternative
lifestyle Palo Alto. Surely they'll also be giving them a break (brake?)
in Utah.
