| Somehow No One Seems To Think Tom Kunich 04:49:10 |
| | Here's a quote:
"Fascism is a government structure. The most notable characteristic of a fascist country is the separation and persecution or denial of equality to a specific segment of the population based upon superficial qualities or belief systems."
Apparently those who claim to be "Liberals" want to use fascistic methodology and pretend that it is somehow correct.

Thi seems to imply that by taking Echinacea your kidneys will generate EPO resulting in higher levels. Hematocrit didn't increase, perhaps because the study's duration was too short for all that EPO to generate new red blood cells. Or is it just a scam to sell Echinacae supplements? Int J Sport Nutr Exerc Metab. 2007 Aug;17(4):378-90. If true that would be quite useful as you get to boost your immune system and more blood cells.
I suppose Pound and co will now want to ban echinacae.

Looking at the unibet.be odds that's where I would put my money. But I don't know who is getting their oil changed in Madrid this week (or Vienna). Then perhaps you ought to change over to something more your own speed such as tiddly-winks or pro wrestling?

| Michael Shermer: The Doping Dilemma Jason Spaceman 08:59:07 |
| | From the article: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * An alarming number of sports baseball, football, track and field, and especially cycling have been shaken by doping scandals in recent years. * Among the many banned drugs in the cycling pharmacopoeia, the most effective is recombinant erythropoietin (r-EPO), an artificial hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells, thereby delivering more oxygen to the muscles. * Game theory highlights why it is rational for professional cyclists to dope: the drugs are extremely effective as well as difficult or impossible to detect; the payoffs for success are high; and as more riders use them, a clean rider may become so noncompetitive that he or she risks being cut from the team. * The game theory analysis of cycling can readily be extended to other sports. The results show quantitatively how governing bodies and antidoping agencies can most effectively target efforts to clean up their sports. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

| No Tour of the USA Tom Kunich 00:11:57 |
| | Dr. Frank Arokiasamy announced that there would be no Tour of America in 2008 and that he would concentrate on making it for 2009.
I was hoping that he would make it a real thing but not the way he had originally announced it with ridiculous length stages and a 4 week race or whatever.
I would like to see a race from the geographical center of the USA to the corners of the USA etc. and changing each year so that every so many years, for instance, the race would end in New York, Los Angelos, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Maine, Miami - that sort of thing. That would make it a three week race with reasonable length stages and show itself in every corner of this country.
The USA deserves a bicycle race of that magnitude and hopefully something like that will happen.

| No Tour of Virginia Either! Tom Kunich 18:03:50 |
| | The same problem is occurring with the Tour of Virginia but the problems look more to be connected to the impending recession than opposition to the race.
Some states have such beautiful scenery that it would really be a great ad for them to televise a race that shows the fantastic scenery. Virginia is certainly one of those states as is Washington State, Oregon and California. New York could have a nice scenic Tour as well.
Though Connecticut would be hard pressed to find anything more scenic than a hot dog stand. I think that Connecticut is the only state I've ever been in where I asked ten people where a good restaurant was and every time was given directions to a fast food place.
Massachusetts had pretty boring scenery as well though it did have some nice country roads.
Colorado is nothing but scenery. After riding all day long through boring desert with hardly a plant it is almost exciting to see a farm in Utah. Though Texas has such a great spread that they could no doubt put on a fine state Tour there as well.
