Playing for Herefordshire yesterday in the first round of the MCCA Knock-Out Trophy, Martin McCague batted at five, from where he made but a single error in compiling a first-ball duck. Never mind, the true all-rounder gets a chance to make amends with the ball. Herefordshire duly stormed to victory, dismissing Shropshire for 260 and completing a 13-run victory, led from the front by the opening bowler McCague (4-0-44-0 [3w]).
