Warne has also been assisting Pietersen - and indirectly England - by telling him the side's weaknesses. "He thinks the best way for England to beat them is by blooding some young players who aren't brainwashed," he told the paper. "He says he knows he'll knock Graham Thorpe over, for instance, and that maybe England should choose some batters who aren't used to being dominated by Australia."
Blooding young players. Yeah, great idea! Let's get rid of all those old farts, like Vaughan. And Strauss and Key and Bell.
With the exception of Thorpe, how many English bantsmen that are used to being dominated bij Australia does Warne think he will be facing?

Yeah, and Thorpe is so used to being dominated by Australia that he averages more against them (marginally) than his overall average. Warne has dismissed him 9 times out of 31 innings.

It is a comforting mantra that the long-time Australian players are> reciting,
<snip>
More "effective" than "comforting" I'd opine Michael. Anyone from the Ozcamp only has to utter it once and; the media shout it, the pom players start to worry about these things and Engfans dig up stats to prove it's wrong on some irrelevant point.

If you count the remedial reading lessons required before watto could copy it out of the Telegraph-Mirror, several years I should think.

Not long enough, another 20 years and it might have been worth posting if they were still playing

Maybe Warne's worried the current England crop might be too much for the Aussies. All of these soundbites flying seem pointless - incredible to think there's still 2 months before the real stuff starts.

It might be handy if somebody could train the print media to not hold the back page every time Warne draws breath.

Andrew
Warne etc generates headlines, sells papers. Headlines about Warne etc generate interest in Warne etc, increases their marketability. Headlines about cricket hype up the series, generate interest in the Ashes. Hype/interest about the Ashes series, generates interest in games and higher attendance. More interest in the games generates more readership.
Seems to me Warne, Pieterson, the media and both cricket boards must be loving this.

True - so genuine cricket fans that know everything Warne says is rubbish just have to put up with it I guess.

Much more likely is the idea that it takes him no effort to say something and has a chance of causing some doubt somewhere in the chain.
Say, for example, that Thorpe fails in the first test. Do you think that Warne's shots might well cause the press to go for him harder than they would have otherwise?
