This reminds me of another former socialist leader Ram Manohar> Lohia, another famous cricket-hater. It is said that Lohia's pet> hates were Jawaharlal Nehru, the English language, and the game> of cricket, generally in that order. Is Mulayam Singh Yadav a> Lohiaite? More in the link below.

Yes he is. That doesn't mean anything though: all north-Indian politicians
that do not belong to the Congress, the BJP (in its various avatars) or the
left parties call themselves Lohiaites.

Even Amar Singh calls himself a Lohiaite, which doesn't prevent him from
partying everyday with his superrich cronies like Amitabh Bachchan, the
Ambanis and the rest of the page three crowd.

Cheers, Shishir

Was Amar Singh a friend of Rajiv Gandhi's?>
No, Amar Singh was not a friend of Rajiv Gandhi. Amitabh Bachchan> was a long-time friend of the Gandhis. His father, famous Hindi> poet Harivanshrai Bachchan, was a close friend of Indira Gandhi.

I thought it was Amitabh's mother, Teji Bachchan, who was Mrs. Gandhi's
friend, and that's how the two families grew close, though I am open to
correction here. Before Sonia married Rajiv, she spent some time with the
Bachchans, apparently to get to understand 'the Indian way of living'.
It was Rajiv Gandhi who brought Amitabh Bachchan into politics> and made him an MP in 1984, a fact that Bachchan has publicly> admitted.>
When Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991, Amitabh Bachchan was> one of the pall-bearers at his funeral. However, after Rajiv> Gandhi's death, there was a distinct coldness in the relations> between Sonia Gandhi and Amitabh Bachchan.

Yeah, the two families don't seem to get along now. Perhaps she blames
Amitabh, and more specifically his brother Ajitabh, for dragging Rajiv's
name in Bofors scandal?
Then in 1997, IIRC, when ABCL collapsed due to financial> mismanagement and Amitabh was in a financial soup; it was> Amar Singh who helped Amitabh Bachchan in that phase.> In a sense, Amitabh might be indebted to Amar Singh for> his help during that crucial phase.

These days Amitabh openly campaigns for the Samajwadi Party (of which Yadav
and Singh are senior leaders), which is Congress Party's arch-enemy in UP.
Amitabh's tryst with the Congress Party is over, at least for now.

Cheers, Shishir

No wonder, I saw some resemblence between Rahul and AB.
