	Cricinfo died sometime before noon, and so I missed out on most of Lara's innings today. Looks like he turned up the heat after lunch. 176 off 226 seems to say it all really. He really rescued the Windies yet again (or should I say 'gave them some respectability before they are thrashed yet again' ?). This debate of who is better- Lara or Tendulkar - will probably reopen now on rsc, with the usual punches and counterpunches and statistics and graphs. Let me start it off :- A few years back, I watching a game between West Indies and Australia on TV. Lara was giving it to the Australians that day, to the (slight) dismay of the Channel Nine commentators, and the evident joy of Michael Holding. At some point, someone (Chappell, I think) asked Holding - "So, how do you think is better - Lara or Tendulkar?" Holding took a moment, and then replied with his inimitable drawl - "When Lara works haard, he is better; when he doesn't, Sachin is better!" Had me laughing at how little Tendulkar being better had to do with Tendulkar, according to Holding

Your question uses the present tense. There can be no doubt that here and now in 2005, whatever may have gone on before, Lara is a supreme batsman, possibly the supreme batsman, and Tendulkar isn't. When you then go on to point out that the challengers for that title are Dravid and Kallis, that question becomes a bit easier to resolve. Cheers, Mike
