David Tua - he is a heavyweight boxer with a granite chin - perhaps the best chin in the sport today. Lost to Lennox Lewis in the lone title shot that he got.

So what possesses you to *ask* about a boxer in a cricket newsgroup?
You appear to find the concept of an international *cricket* newsgroup rather difficult. It's not a chat room where people converse in real time, and it's not a general social thing for Indians to witter about anything they like. It's a Usenet group for the discussion of cricket. Please stop *encouraging* people to write drivel about other subjects.

If you find my posts so objectionable, please killfile me. I wont lose anything, since I hardly ever read anything from you, and you wont be bothered. Otherwise I could care less what you think about what is appropriate or inappropriate on this newsgroup. You can go to hell for all I care.
As for cricket - we Indians will do as we please. If it were up to you englishmen, the game would have died out long back. So stop acting like you own this newsgroup - its we who tolerate you, not the other way round. I come here mostly to chat about Indian cricket with fellow Indians. If you have a problem with that, I dont care. Just because there are a precious couple of you englishmen on here, dont think we ought to humour you guys and engage in conversations with you on topics you deem important. As I said, go to hell.
Ill put you on my killfile now. Please reciprocate.

Nobody minds that - you are trying to chat with Indians about Biryani & with Australians about boxing.

What exactly was wrong in what Mike said? And please do not use the> "we Indians".. thing. Not every Indian or even a majority of them> possibly agree with you.

Call me Australian again and I'll punch your lights out.

I read Gafoor's posts too because sometimes he does post useful stats. I >think you have>been unfairly harsh on him about his posts on Kumble. Kumble has been very >good at home>and until recently he wasn't very good abroad. So, I didn't see anything >wrong in Gafoor's>posts about Kumble's overseas stats.>
Maybe you should put Gafoor in your killfile and move on.
Having done so, it's certainly a lot easier to find other things to post about than gafoolishness. But it means that one misses out on the occasional gem, such as that Kumble's series averages have not been particularly good overseas until quite recently.
The question I'd ask is what that actually proves.
I just had a whizz through the scorecards of his matches away from home: he bowled in 78 innings. He failed to take a wicket in only 12 (and the wicketless innings are evenly scattered, not just in the early days, and a few are spells of two or three overs). Kapil Dev so failed in 22 of 108, a considerably higher proportion, Chandrasekhar, 11 out of 42, Srinath 14 out of 64, Harbhajan 8 out of 36 - all of them worse ratios than Kumble's. Of those 78 away bowling performances, 25 were the top score for India, as it were, and on a further seven occasions he took the same number of wickets as the guy who did have the best return (one being a three-way tie on two wickets apiece), and again this is not confined to recent matches only but is evenly spread through his career. How many other bowlers can you think of who are their side's best bowler every third innings, and are at least the equal leading wicket-taker in an innings 40% of the time, and have been so for over a decade? And how good are they?
It's entirely arguable that Kumble has been India's most consistent wicket-taking bowler overseas by quite some distance. People have been known to say that it's unfair to criticise Tendulkar about lack of match-winning performances on the grounds that his performances would have won more matches if the others hadn't let him down; one could just as easily suggest that Kumble would have had more recognition for his bowling overseas if the others hadn't been so awful, since he was so often the pick of the bunch.
It depends on what sort of statistics you like, I guess.
