What I find more heartening about Dhoni is that he is not from one of India's established cricketing nurseries (Mumbai, Delhi, Karnataka etc.) but rather from Jharkhand. That can only be a very good thing for cricket in India. Inspite of the popularity of the game all over the country, it is a little disturbing that most of the team comes from the major centers. That means we are not doing such a good job of transforming interest for the game into talent at the grassroots level in other parts of the country. The advent of folks like Dhoni means we might have a larger talent pool to choose from in the future.
I think today we saw what some people had only been jokingly talking about - both Sehwag and Dhoni firing. We saw what that can do - India reached 356.

Raliway cuisine varies from station to station and train to train. I particularly liked the the 1 rupee tea served at any Bombay local station. Later on Watermelon juice (Rs 4 -1998) at Dadar western railway station also became by favourite. Kokum juice and Lemon soda ( Rs 3 -1998)were also good on a summer day.
However My favourite was Wada Pav ( Rs 2.50) at Asangaon station. My Ideal Raliway Combo was tea , wada pav and a few puffs of Gold Flake (Rs 18-20 for a 10s pack -1998).
I never liked the meals they served on Panchvati Express , the Decan Queen, Singhagad etc however they were way better than the meals I get during trans Atlantic flights.

Boy, this newsgroup sure has been flooded with food related issues for the past few days. We should perhaps change the name of rsc from rec.sport.cricket to recipe source for cooking.

I used the Dadar West railway station a lot during my 6 years in Mumbai, and had the watermelon juice fairly often. In my days (early 90s) it was Rs. 2. Btw, did you ever try Aashirwaad restaurant in Dadar? Amazing chicken chilli and chicken tikka. My all time favourite.

Interesting how you are excited by someone's ODI exploits on an> absolute belter of a track... You always said that judge a batsman> on his ability to handle pace bowlers on a wicket helping the bowlers> with fielders in catching positions!
Dhoni's innings was more than slogging on a belter. His last 50 or so runs were scored when he was visibly tired and later exhausted - yet he kept hitting cleanly to and over the boundary - and never said no to a single. He combined beautifully with Dravid (can't all be to Dravid's credit). Almost all his hits were in the arc between extra cover and long on.
This isn't a flat track bully.
Now India is faced with an interesting conundrum of keeping Dhoni at opening or #3 position and seeing Kaif and Yuvraj struggle in the slog stages. My view is this a good problem to have. Dhoni should play up the order as long as he keeps getting the big scores and providing India with dream starts.

I do not remember Ashirwaad. However at Dadar West I used to go to an Udipi place with a name staring with V ( could be Vaibhav) for Masala dosa or Vadda Sambhar. Only restaurant in Dadar i really liked was Gomantak mainly for their Fish Thali.

Baroda and Railways are "states"?>

They serve excellent meals in Rajdhani Express. Their dahi served in> clay pot is absolutely fabulous.

I loved Gomantak too - for their pomfret fry and also their prawn masala. Man, what lines there were to get in during the evening. Amazing place. In 1993, there was also a new malvani place with really great malvani seafood. Another famous place there was sindhudurg. I dont know which udipi place you are referring to.
My cousins lived right next to Plaza cinema. We used to drink quite frequently at Sanmaan (do you know where that is - its on the way to Shivaji Park). Really miss those days.
