Nice article, though its a day late. April Fool's day is not on April> 2nd>
I'd say that any combination of Craddock & Selfish Roger would make the date wholly irrelevant.
That aside, this drivel highlights one of my favourite rants. The shrinking of grounds. Comparing Clang's scoring rate to the Don's is a comparison that only an idiot would make as the ground size, in Aust at least appear to have shrunk enormously. Loathsome NSV creature Jack Ryder used to hold the record for most sixes hit in a fc game at the MCG, 5 iirc, all hit *over* the fucking fence. And was out attempting a 6th only to be caught by a fielder with his back against the fence. These days that ball would have sailed over the boundary rope, the inner circle of energy drink carrying twelth men, some large advertising signs and then over the outer ring of over-weight security blokes, media tarts and a couple of parked cars before chipping some paint off the MCG fence. Bah!
And not only have the shruken grounds led to a direct increase in scoring rates, I believe that they positively encourage batscums to hit OTT, thereby further inflating the s/r. It's another ICCFU. In an effort to introduce standardisation they've reduced the large to the suit the little. Reduced the grand to the bland. Bah! I don't care if batting records are continually racked up on football grounds in NZ. Games there don't count anyway. Why the records of Oz grounds should be poxed up because of that annoys the poo out of me. And people wonder why us cynics sneer when you hear straight-faced administrators sprouting about "tradition" and history when they're trying to justify some dodgy stance. Bah! And Bah! again.
alvey in griz, doing appallingly in every tipping comp I'm in.
