Cricket and Chess

Alan OBrien 24 March 2005 20:58:37
Those of you that may know something about chess might think that new chess
world number 1 Vishwanathan Anand is the world's top chess-playing cricket
fan.
In fact the great Indian likes soccer.

The St Petersburger and 4 times Russian Champion Peter Svidler is the
world's top chess-playing cricket fan. He mentions his interest on his
website: http://www.psvidler.net/about_peter.htm

For truly, you can never tell!
Alan

Love like you're Frank in Blue Velvet.

Enter Tendulkar in this box here

Svidler's ICC Handle is Tendulkar.

Peter Svidler (FIDE 2735) is rated higher in chess than
Nigel Short (FIDE 2674), another 'chess-playing cricket fan'.

But who would play better cricket? :-)

Perhaps International Master Andy Martin has a claim on being the best
all-rounder. Every year, the BCF organises a team to play a local side on
the free day in the middle of the British Championships, and in 2004 he was
the only titled player to take part. Match report here :

http://www.bcf.org.uk/events/bcf2004/cricket.htm

Also, the Scottish international Heather Lang has played cricket for Oxford
Uni.

World #1 is Vishwanath Anand? He surely has not beaten Kasparov in a> series (...or a match?) to the best of my knowledge

Kasparov has retied from Professional Chess.
