It's a low percentage shot when ever it's played with a horizontal bat
exactly thats the prob. when the bat sweeps down horizontally n parallel to ground, whenever there is a slight turn n bounce, the top edge occurs. SRT, HAyden n others who do it well, just slam it down hard on ground, like hammering the nail, sort of vertically. so more sucess rate. As you say below, I am always surprised when people get out so frequently to sweep shot and dont change the technique in which they play the shot.

To be fair, replays suggested it came off his forearm.>
Even if that's true, the shot's execution can encourage that kind of umpiring error.

Not lately. Managed to catch a little of the game between work and delays. Hayden was nearly caught by Cumming at short leg (well, Hayden hit one straight at Cumming and in his effort of trying to evade injury, nearly had the ball trapped) after a sweep then lofted one short of a deep leg in the same over from Vettori.
Hayden in India was taking his bat well above his head and swatting it to the groud, but his current sweep has his bat moving in a much flatter pattern, probably owing to his lack of confidence.
Didn't see the Langer dismissal, but I didn't think his sweeping technique was all that bad that he'd want to remove the shot from his arsenal.

I have seen him quite a few times in the past getting out sweeping, caught at backward short leg. Not remove the shot from the arsenal, just change his technique a bit.
