Many of these were helped by playing a fair bit of county cricket, thus
getting to play in more matches. Of the top five, Grimmett was the only
one who didn't play any county cricket.

How many wickets would Warne have taken if he had played the same amount
of matches as Trott, or some of the old-school English players like WG
or Frank Wooley (who, IIRC, played over 1000 FC matches)?

It's hard to extrapolate ... Would Warne's shoulder and fingers have
held up ok? The more you play, the more likely you are to be injured.
In those days, with uncovered wickets, those tailenders were very much
in the firing line facing deliveries that jumped off a length with only
the most primitive of protective gear and nothing like the medical
support and rehab services available now.

And let's not even talk about the state of many of the outfields and
the possibility of injury there.

I think they meant international cricket where you're away from your
family for the majority of the year.
