Last match they had a fellow called "September" fielding for them and in this test match they have a sub called "Phangiso"..?Who are these guys,I dont think they are in the squad of 14 also?
Which brings me to a pertinent question, what is the law regarding fielding of substitutes,is it necessary they be in the squad of 14 or there is no restriction at all?

I can't find any reference to this "squad of 14" in the Laws of Cricket. Could you say which Law it is in?
The Laws are completely silent on who or what may act as a substitute in the field, although he, she or it may not keep wicket. A substitute acting as a runner must, however, be an actual member of the playing XI and must be wearing similar kit and armour to the injured player.

Aaron Phangiso is 21 years old and would seem to be a batsman who also offers a bit of slow left-arm bowling. He plays for the b-section Northerns franchise.
Waylain September is a slow left-armer who plays for Boland in the b-section competition. Neatly enough he'll be 21 in September.

They can't bowl, can't keep wicket and can't take over the captaincy. Otherwise they need not be nominated in the squad or even be FC cricketers. I wonder if they even have to be eligible to represent the country they are subbing for.

Obviously not, given the several occasions when a substitute who cas taken a catch has been someone loaned by the other side.

I knew that there have been incidents like this, though I can't think of any off the top of my head. What I was really wondering was if the requirement IN THIS DAY AND AGE is that the sub must be eligible to represent the country s/he is fielding for and if a young player potentially eligible for two countries compromises his options by doing so.
