So if the keeper is standing back and underarms the ball which rolls towards the stumps and hits them, with the striker out of his ground, is it stumped or run out? I'm sure this has happened a few times, especially at the death.
On second thoughts, the batsmen have probably crossed by this time so it would be run out ... but what if they haven't crossed? When does a stumping turn into a run out?

IIRC when a run is being attempted, it is run out.
