Looks like WBA heavyweight champion John Ruiz will have a tall order when he makes his next mandatory. 7'2 Nicolay Valuev is the new WBA #1 rated heavyweight
Has anyone seen Niclolay Valuev fight? I saw him once at Gleasons gym, huge man! Hope he is better then some of the other giants that have tried the boxing game. Rich
I kind of suspect Valuev is a fraud. Granted I have never seen him fight but if the guy is 7' tall and is undefeated in over 40 professional fights then why hasn't he been on TV yet? You would think if he was any good his handlers would have put him on American TV by now to generate some interest. I am thinking Valuev has been hidden just to sell a fight as some sort of freak show. My predictions this year are the touch of death and I will probably sink even further in the VanPred ratings but I am going to predict that Ruiz knocks this big galute out.

I've seen him fight two times. Before the first fight I thought the same as you, but after the second, I'm willing to believe he might be real. How better boxers will fare against him is hard to say, I'd expect him to get in trouble against guys built and skilled like Vit and Lewis. The point is, he seems to be extremely strong and quite hard to hurt (also because of his sheer size), so smaller guys might be destroyed by his heavy hands while trying to get in into him. It's strange seeing him hit in what looks like slow-mo, while watching his opponents these hits seem to have big effect.
Btw. he seems to be a very nice and humble guy.
As for his career after boxing, if they are ever going to do a remake of the hunchback of Notre Dame, I'd say he's perfect for a role.
I have heard he is slow and but has reasonable boxing skills. When you combine skills on a guy who is 7'2 and 150 kilos you can last 12 rounds you have a dangerous package capable of destroying 95% of heavyweight until he encounters the final top 5% you can hit has hard as him, land more punches, fight with more speed, intensity and skill and not let the reach advantage be too much of a problem. But only the top 5% have these traits.
Ruiz is possibly the worst heavyweight champion in the history of boxing. Hopefully Valuev puts a hole in him. The heavyweight division is starving for some decent talent.
Now this is rocky IV he will kill a boxer in a ring, this guy is a brut with pure power. It is just a matter of time when the world knows about this monster. HA! all boxers are doommed.
