Easiest thing is to just catch ESPN2 Classics some time. They are notorious for showing the same Ali fights over and over again (I think I've seen Ali-Quarry more than Tyson-Holyfield)

they, ESPN, repeat the ame tapes because they feel Quarry may still get lucky.
The best place I've found www.boxingcraze.com This guy has a lot of original broadcasts that are excellent quality.

When We were kings was the fine documentary about the fight, The Greatest collection contains The Rumble in the Jungle, Thrilla in Manilla, and Clay-Liston I. Also a mediocre bonus documentary.
Amazon does seem to list Ali-Trevor Berbick as an available DVD. Not sure why anyone would want to see that.
If you have a region-free DVD player, Amazon.co.uk sells Ali-Frazier I on DVD. you get ~45 min of teaser footage about the fight that didn't appear in the HBO documentary or a documentary that ESPN Classic runs about the fight. Both of those cable sources only run documentaries that tease one about how great the fight is, but never show the fight. The UK DVD follows it up with the entire fight, with sound, without commentary. Very nice way to watch it. Worth getting a region-free player if you don't already have one.
I second the reccomendation for Ali: The Whole Story. there's olympic and early pro career footage that's remarkably complete and which I haven't seen anywhere else.

There was a multipart documentation on german tv about Ali, which had very good footage about his early days. I can't remember the title, only that an Eddie Grant song was played during the end credits.

No, I don't. The DVD (RC2) contains both Rumble and Thrilla> in full length as bonus material.
That's cool. Sorry to doubt you. I wonder if they didn't have them over here because they were out on the other DVD.
Or maybe they did come out here and the video store that I bought the DVD used from had redirected the bonus disc.
