Who is the promoter of record for that one? did King win the bid? if so, if
it is shown in Canada, it'll likely be kingvision, and the Colonel....sweet.
Also..the Tito-Winky fight, I know its HBO in the states, but will it be
kingvision outside? I know that winky isn';t a king fighter, so hopefully we
won't have to deal with the Colonel.

Maybe. I'd like to see Ruiz, the pimp, go down, out and be gone from HW

Usually if it's a free HBO then TSN picks it up. Too early to see their
schedule that far ahead but I'd bet on it...

Not necessarily true... They usually find a way to screw us in Canada
when it comes to the marquee name fighters, by charging us for PPV even
if the fight's on "regular" HBO in the US. Recent HBO-level fights with
Gatti and Mosley come to mind... It wouldn't surprise me one bit if they
show Ruiz-Toney only on PPV in Canada.

No no! Your cue is to bring up that Ruiz is only held down by racism.
Just who is racist, what race Ruiz is, and why anybody cares about it -
well, let's let that slide for now, OK?

No kidding , Digdeep.. I remember paying for Winky/Mosley 2.. not only that
but it wasn't even a decent quality HBO broadcast, it looked like a bootleg,
with Dave Bontempo commentating.. it was awful. and with king cards, we
do['t get the HBO broadcast, we get Kingvision, which si worse thana

I distinctly remember questioning the logic behind charging $40 for
Wright-Mosley 2, instead of playing it on TSN like they normally do.
That fight featured two solid fighters who aren't exactly household
names to the casual fan, so why show it on PPV while it was showing on
free HBO in the US? I wonder what their breakeven point was?

Agreed on Kingvision, too. It's just a forum for the announcers to put
on the pom-poms and talk about how great Don King is... And don't get me
started on the Colonel Bob Sheridan... He had me in stitches during the
broadcast of the Spinks-Judah rematch, when he referred to Winky Wright
as the fighter who exposed Roy Jones, Jr...

Its pretty upsetting, but at least we didnt have to dig out ppv funds for
Spink/Judah. But the Colonel is Senile, no doubt. whenever I know that teh
two main fighters are king fighters, or its a king card, I know we are
dealing with the Colonel. Even the Tarver/Jones rematch, since King won the
bid, we had to deal with the Colonel, thats why I am kind of nervous about
some of the upcoming fights involving king fighters, its awful.

Toney gave up being great when he put on 75+ pounds. With Ruiz's
style, I could see him taking Toney the distance and winning.

I've never been a John Ruiz fan because of his ugly style. However,
I'd love to see him clobber the perpetually trash-talking, insult-spewing
James Toney. However, since both men take good shots, we're probably
looking at a long, dull 12 round decision with more clinches than punches.

Then you'll be waiting for a long time. Toney will take Ruiz's best shots
and laugh, and proceed to beat the man to a late knockout. Watch Ruiz get
taken to school April 30th, then return to eat your crow.
However, since both men take good shots,

That was one fight. Tua is one of the most devestating punchers in HW
history.

Ruiz might not have a GREAT chin, but it's more than durable. He took hard
shots from Golota and Rahman and still kept coming.

I'm a big James Toney fan, but I think he's in for one tough fight against
John Ruiz based on styles.

There's a huge gap nowadays between greatness and being a 'world'> > champion. Look at who Toney's beaten since he lost to Roy Jones.>
McCallum, Jirov, Holyfield, etc...

Credit to Toney for beating Jirov, but as was mentioned.. though not yet
evident, he was a fighter on the downhill slide.. losing he's next two
fights.

Holyfield.. who may have been a favourite.. but was clearly on a steep
downhill slide, winning only 2 out of his last 9 fights. He may have been
the favourite coming into the fight, but so was Roy Jones coming into the
Johnson fight even though he's decline was evident much earlier in the
Tarver fights.

McCallum was regarded as one of the greatest body punchers in the last
quarter of a century.. but was never considered the same fighter at Light
Heavy as he was at Middle. And certainly not the same fighter at Cruiser.
Credit to Toney for defeating him during some of McCallum's greatest
fighting years in the early 90's, but that was before losing to Jones. Toney
defeated McCallum in their rubber match at Cruiserweight but it was a
victory against another shot fighter on the downhill slope.. as was the case
with Holyfield.

So, after losing to Jones, and with the exception of Jirov.. who truly
credible great fighters has Toney defeated who were not considered over the
hill at the time of the fight??

He lost his next two fights #1) Because Toney ruined him, and #2) He was
fighting at a weight he's clearly not effective in.

Was Vargas on the downhill when he fought Trinidad? I guess so according
to your logic.

Holyfield.. who may have been a favourite.. but was clearly on a steep> downhill slide, winning only 2 out of his last 9 fights.

Never being dominated or KTFO'd by the likes of a former middleweight. In
fact, never being KO'ed once except against Riddick Bowe. Why wasn't Larry
Donald able to put Holyfield on his back? After all, shouldn't Evander have
been even MORE finished in the Donald fight?
He may have been> the favourite coming into the fight, but so was Roy Jones coming into the> Johnson fight even though he's decline was evident much earlier in the> Tarver fights.

So Roy Jones was shot, and shouldn't have been favored in that fight?

Neither was Toney. Your point?

And he beat him after that too. Yes McCallum was out of his best weight
class, but so was Toney. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.
Toney defeated McCallum in their rubber match at Cruiserweight but it was > a> victory against another shot fighter on the downhill slope..

haha. Amazing how every fighter Toney demolishes is suddenly shot after his

Nope. Holyfield went on to lose a UD after being KTFO'd by Toney. And
before the fight no one was calling Holyfield shot. Monday morning
quaterback commentary is meaningless to me.
So, after losing to Jones, and with the exception of Jirov..

Why are you leaving out Jirov?
who truly> credible great fighters has Toney defeated who were not considered over > the> hill at the time of the fight??

Easy. Holyfield, McCallum, McGroom, Thadzi(who he beat), Griffin (who he
beat) to name a few.

The challenge was to name "truly credible great fighters." Terry
McGroom, Drake Thadzi, and Montell Griffin do not qualify. (Terry
McGroom? A guy whose previous opponents had a sub-.500 winning
percentage, who went 1-7-1 after Toney with a lone victory over a guy
who was 0-28? You accuse others of minimizing Toney's opponents, and
you puff up *Terry McGroom* as a "truly credible great fighter"? I
think other Toney fans are begging you to stop.)
And yes, Holyfield was considered over the hill and in decline *prior*
to the Toney fight. It was noted after the Byrd fight, after each Ruiz
fight, and after the Lewis fights. And it was true. Recall that
Holyfield's decent performance against Rahman was greeted with no small
degree of surprise.

The challenge was to name "truly credible great fighters." Terry McGroom, > Drake Thadzi, and Montell Griffin do not qualify.

Then I doubt you're much of a boxing fan. Going into all those fights all
of those opponents were considered credible. Running to boxrec to pretend
you know what you're talking about after the fact really doesn't prove
anything to me outside of the fact that you know how to use a search engine.
Terry McGroom? A guy whose previous opponents had a sub-.500 winning > percentage, who went 1-7-1 after Toney with a lone victory over a guy who > was 0-28?

Nice boxrec work, search engine scholar. Tell me, since you saw the fight
what channel was it broadcast on, and what happned in the last round?
You accuse others of minimizing Toney's opponents, and you puff up *Terry > McGroom* as a "truly credible great fighter"?

If you were watching boxing at the time you'd know McGroom was considered a
good boxer, was coming off an impressive win against another credible
opponent who's name escapes me (you can run to boxrec if you like), and was
facing one of the most out of shape James Toney's I've ever seen.
And yes, Holyfield was considered over the hill and in decline *prior* to > the Toney fight. It was noted after the Byrd fight, after each Ruiz > fight, and after the Lewis fights. And it was true. And let's see what you said after the fight: "I was probably surprised that
Toney beat Holyfield, and the margin by which he did so"

ahahahhahahaha. Yet another guy who thinks his monday morning

I didn't say they weren't credible. You see, I'm reacting to what Tiso
actually wrote. He didn't ask for "credible" fighters. He asked for
"truly credible great fighters." Were McGroom, Thadzi, and Griffin
considered "great?" Much less "truly...great?" Or were they considered
merely "credible?" Or are you just picking out the words that apply?
There's a great difference between being "credible" and being "great."
Unfortunately for your statement above, Tiso used *both* words.

Terry McGroom? A guy whose previous opponents had a sub-.500 winning >>percentage, who went 1-7-1 after Toney with a lone victory over a guy who >>was 0-28?> Nice boxrec work, search engine scholar. Tell me, since you saw the fight > what channel was it broadcast on, and what happned in the last round?

I didn't see it. Now tell me about Terry McGroom.
You accuse others of minimizing Toney's opponents, and you puff up *Terry >>McGroom* as a "truly credible great fighter"?> If you were watching boxing at the time you'd know McGroom was considered a > good boxer, was coming off an impressive win against another credible > opponent who's name escapes me (you can run to boxrec if you like), and was > facing one of the most out of shape James Toney's I've ever seen.

He was a credible opponent. And that's all he was. It's notable that
he beat Terry McGroom, but it'll never be one of his top achievements.
McGroom wasn't great, and like most fighters, he hit his limit, which
was well below James Toney.
And yes, Holyfield was considered over the hill and in decline *prior* to >>the Toney fight. It was noted after the Byrd fight, after each Ruiz >>fight, and after the Lewis fights. And it was true. Recall that >>Holyfield's decent performance against Rahman was greeted with no small >>degree of surprise.> And let's see what you said after the fight: "I was probably surprised that > Toney beat Holyfield, and the margin by which he did so"

Yes, that's what I said. Can you find what people were saying about
Holyfield before the Toney fight? what they were saying about him after
the Byrd fight? after each Ruiz fight? after each Lewis fight?
Or are you again just picking out the comments that you want?

You're not quite on the level of David Mills, but you're a lot funnier
than you realize.
