Boxing workout

Simpledog 22 February 2005 10:50:48
I run 30 miles a week, and do 100 pushups/situps every day (except Sunday),
with 2 sets of 15 chin ups. I'm 38 years old. I've always admired the
boxing physique, so I bought a bag. How often should I hit the bag, and how
would I incorporate into my training. Right now I'm doing tues/thurs 3x
times 3 minutes. It's tough!

Objecting: A slightly more muscular body without weight training.

Weight 152
Height 5'10"

I run at about a 9 min/mile pace.

Here's my daily workout - everyday but Sat/Sun

5km/day run
30mins skipping
heavybag - 2min rounds x 5 rounds
speedbag - 2min rounds x 5 rounds
double-end bag - 2min rounds x 5 rounds
500 situps
500 pushups
100 chinups

Thats what I do for the first 30 days, then switch up a little harder for
the final 30 days before a fight.

Hope that helped!

Oh, for the bag, try:

round 1 - jabs, double jabs
round 2 - left right
round 3 - left right left
round 4 - left left right left
round 5 - hooks - lotsa hooks

You won't gain a single pound of muscle with all that running. You need a
calorie surplus to gain muscle.

None of the training below is going to make the body catabolic ...

I meant metabolic.

But then again, why would you want to gain muscle for boxing?

If your a heavyweight - muscle is okay for intimidation factor, not for
speed and other things.
