The Ole Procrastinator predicts the Pacquiao vs Diaz bout Guest 12:42:22

After looking at the records of the two comabtants, Diaz and Pacquiao,
will end late, possible the 9th round. Pacquiao will be busier than a
man trying milk two cows with one hand. He's squeeze the life out of
Diaz with a never ending salvo of puches that come every angle. Of
course Diaz will offer an offence in order to look good, but the
results will be determined when the first bell rings. Forget any
fashion statements by Diaz.

One thing that will be very noticeable. Manny Pacquiao will be very
patient . . . while sitting with his cornermen between rounds.
Otherwise, it will be the ame thing as usual: if any0000000000 fighter
can't out busy Manny, the end will be just about anytime Manny decides
to end it. He will choose that later rounds, possibly the nineth.

This is not a fight of "if," it is a fight of when.

A majority of the RSB regulars already know what will happen.

That's my prediction and I'm sticking with it.

"I'm fair, but I'm firm", Joe Cortez The Sanity Cruzer 09:21:07
Mumble Mouth Joe Cortez took an apparent victory out of Humberto Soto's
hands and DQ'd him. While I haven't seen the video, I have read that a
glancing blow landed after Francisco Lorenzo took to the canvas, after
having been knocked down earlier. Lorenzo stayed on the canvas (I saw this
part) as referee Joe Cortez met with (I assume) some in the NSAC.
Meanwhile, Lorenzo, seemingly needing medical attention and indicating. by
his not getting up, that he would not be continuing in the fight, played the
part of a damaged fighter. After the meeting, Joe Cortez ruled that Soto
was DQ'd and that Lorenzo was the winner.

While Soto and Lorenzo were fighting for the 130 lb title vacated by Manny
Pacquiao, the result was so disgustingly inappropriate that the WBC
reportedly decided not to crown Lorenzo the interim champion.

I'd like to see the replay.

Manny Pacquiao TKO's Diaz in round 9 Emily E. 07:52:56
 http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3463330

Round 9

Diaz's last stand. What does he have. Pacquiao pumping the jab. He's
looking to set up the left. Diaz still throwing. Pacquiao lands a
nifty left on Diaz's ear. Diaz stops for a moment and Pacquiao blasts
him with a left. Diaz on his heels courtesy of a Pacquiao shot. How is
he still standing? Diaz stumbles forward. Pacquiao teeing off. Diaz's
trunks a sickly pink. Pacquiao lands a whistling left hand on the
chin. Diaz pitches forward and lands face first on the canvas. That's
it. Referee Drakulich stops the fight.

Re: Hypothetical Question: Jones vs. Calzhage Broozin 06:57:31
I didn't tink JC was the consensus p4p #1... but lets say he is... If
Jones is ti win between the two I don't think it would make him #1. I
remember when Vernon Forrest beat Shane Mosley? Forrest was claiming to be
the best in the world. H Lederman then said just because you beat Tiger
Woods that doesn't make you Tiger Woods. I think we all know what crazy
Harry was saying. The idea of Forrest as p4p #1 was then a crazy notion.
With a win I'm not sure Jones cracks the top 10... I wouldn't be offended if
he did... but definately not top 5... not #1. With Pacquio fighting tonight
and PPF hanging up the gloves if Manny loses tonight the p4p really opens
up...

If Jones were to win, would he replace JC as the consensus P4P #1 or
2, or would he re-enter on the bottom-end of the mythical top 10, or
not at all?
Certainly, there's a strong argument to exclude him even if he wins;
but at the same time, there's the old "beat the man to be the man"
adage.

Very interesting interview w/former Showtime exec Jay Larkin. He feels
boxing has declined ever since the 80's when HBO and Showtime "stole"
it from the free-tv networks.
As a result boxers make much more $ (maybe more than they deserve) but
the sport as a whole suffers due to the fact that pay-cable has fewer
viewers than the "free" channels.

Boxing is always better on PPV than network TV as you don't get the
commercial breaks between rounds. I've always felt that way as you only get
what you pay for. And of course the old argument that boxing is a hard thing
for sponsors to toss money into when you can't be sure how long a fight will
last. Unlike team sports (football, baseball, hockey, auto racing etc) where
they know their ads will be seen because the contest will last until the
clock runs out.

Boxing hasn't declined, it's just changed...

Fenech beats Nelson! Walter Mitty 17:52:25

Well, there's a surprise!

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=3458565

,----
| MELBOURNE, Australia -- Jeff Fenech earned bragging rights with a
| majority decision over Azumah Nelson in a junior middleweight bout
| Tuesday, 16 years after they last fought for a world title.
|
|
| Though the fight was billed as a serious rematch, the 44-year-old Fenech
| and 49-year-old Nelson were far from the form they exhibited in fighting
| for super featherweight titles in 1991 and 1992.
|
|
| Judges scored Tuesday's 10-round bout 96-94, 96-94 and 95-95 for Fenech.
|
|
| The Australian was bidding for a third world title in the first fight in
| 1991 in Las Vegas, which ended in a controversial draw. Azumah, from
| Ghana, knocked Fenech out in the eighth round of the 1992 rematch in
| Melbourne.
|
|
| Tuesday's fight was billed as "the final round" of their rivalry and was
| claimed to be more than an exhibition, though Fenech last fought
| professionally in 1996 and Nelson in 1998.
|
|
| Both had been triple world champions when they met in Melbourne, but
| finished their careers matched against lesser opponents.
|
|
| Tuesday's bout revealed little of their old class and there were boos
| and catcalls from some spectators who had paid up to $2,380 for a
| ringside seat.
|
|
| The match was denounced by critics including the Australian Medical
| Association and by the Ghanaian Boxing Association.

Chris Arreola? Dean 04:16:59
Why no comments on the Arreola/ Witherspoon fight? I'm pretty excited about
this guy,
he fought a good fight. Obviously he trained hard, he's very strong, and can
take a punch.
He has a straight forward style that leaves him vulnerable, but it makes for
an exciting fight.
Nice to see some talent in the HW division. Dean

Andre Berto: Temporary Title Holder The Sanity Cruzer 18:29:14
While all title holders are temporary, IMO, Andre Berto should be counting
his blessing and hoping that the WBC does not force him into a difficult
mandatory defense of his newly won welterweight title. I am definitely
under-impressed with Berto when he's compared to several of the other
current welterweights. Would anybody favor him against Shane Mosley, Paul
Williams or Antonio Margarito, let alone Miguel Angel Cotto? If Berto were
to fight any of those guys soon, I don't think he'd have a chance.

Berto should fight and defend his title soon and often, putting away a nice
little nest egg for when he is retired. He reminds me a bit of Zab Judah,
in that he has speed, some power, is short and I don't think he'll ever live
up to earlier expectations.
