I was in Nahant beach yesterday (near Boston - Mass) and was watching a few brave guys (the water temp was 36 Fahrenheit or 2.2 Celsius) surfing small waves with kayaks... Being a windsurfer myself and sick and tired of waiting for wind that does not blow here in Boston I was thinking in getting a surfing kayak for playing in small waves in windless days. could you recommend any models. I am 76Kg(167 pounds) and 1.75 meters (5.7 feet) tall.
Do you want a surf kayak or a white water kayak for the surf? People use both but usually if only paddling the surf people will go with surf kayaks. Here's a link to check out the difference.

Thanks Courtney for the answer, I am only interested in "paddling the surf" it will be used only in the ocean to surf small waves. Any suggestion ? model, online retailer etc.

Check out the BoaterTalk Surfzone: http://www.boatertalk.com/forum/surfzone. There are probably a few people around there that live in your area (I live in Holland, Europe)
To give you a decent advice: what size/weight/feet-size etc. are you?
I (tall fellow, 6'4", size 10.5 shoes, 82 kilo's) paddle a Mega Marauder PE (PE does not mean plastic in this case). To see more models of the Mega range: http://www.mega-kayaks.co.uk/. Be sure to mail Malcolm (malcolm@mega-kayaks.co.uk) for some advice on the type of boat would be suitable for you.
BTW: surf kayaks are quite hard to paddle for a novice. Some white water play boats offer a similar performance (although not identical). For instance the Riot Tekno (I have one myself as a general purpose/WW/Surf boat).
If you would like to have a plastic (PE) surfkayak, there are currently two models out: the Riot Boogie (reissued in 2005) and the Mega X-Ray.
