We have had a herd (4-8) of deer pass through our yard over the past several years. It is now almost a nightly ritual and they are becoming more and more bold and doing more and more damage. During the winter they would sometimes rest at the back end of our neighbors property for hours, intermitentantly eating whatever greens they can find.
The rural areas of the city are being developed and the deer have few places to go now. I do not blame the deer nor do I want to kill them. But they have become so bold that even yelling at them will not make them run away/
The deer do enough damage during the winter...we cannot imagine what they will do this spring.
Here is a pic of one of the deer at the back end of our property last winter:
I bought a nice little CO2 .177 caliber pellet pistol (485 fps) today at Wal-Mart (only $11.00) and hope to scare some deer off my property for good over the next several weeks. A good shot in the back end should make them remember not to come back.
The chipmunks are next, although I don't think they will survive. I live trapped 10 of the suckers last summer and released them over 2 miles away. I think they are back as I saw one this morning.
Here is a pic of our cats hoping to get to one of them:

Around here they sell deer repellent, it seems to work so-so. I've also> heard that planting a lot of geraniums works, too. It seems they don't> like the taste or smell.>
We tried that but it did not work either. Even tried hanging soap bars and throwing down moth balls...nothing seems to work.
Saw 3 doe's in the backyard this morning. Went back there and got 3 shots off. I know I hit one as I never saw it run away as fast as it did....the others followed.
They will hopefully get the message.
My wife want to pour human urine around her plants and has asked my son and I to donate to a covered bottle now kept in the 1st floor bathroom.
