There is a table of needed room size in the Frequently
Asked Questions list for this group. You can find it
at http://www.sfbilliards.com/faq.html -- see item #10
which may still be too small as the text explains after
the size chart. Here is some feedback I got a month ago
about the usual manufacturers' suggestions:

Saw your article that included suggested room size
requirements for pool tables. If you check almost any pool
table manufacturer's website you'll find that they list the
room length requirement for a pool table to be the sum of the
interior space (in the long direction) plus the exact length
of the cue. In the case of a pro 8 table (8.5' long) they
say you need 17'2".

Based on this same erroneous information (that I got off not
1 but 6 different websites and from the place I bought my
table) I set my room up to that specification and IT SUCKS!
No room at all for backstroke. Tapping the walls constantly.
For years after that I told everyone on the web about this
misinformation (Olhausen, Brunswick, Gandy, the B.C.A. etc.)
and they won't change their suggested specifications. Your
figures are correct, believe me. Do these people actually
shoot pool in rooms of those sizes? I don't think so. At
least not if they are using a regulation cue. And how about
the great balance and feel of those shorty cues? Talk about
horrible. I'd like to strangle all these people.

Thanks for at least having the right info out there.

Andy

I agree with the poster that replied to you. If it is a normal room
with walls that go all the way up to the cieling, then I would suggest
adding the length of the cue to the outside dimension of the table and
then adding another 4-6ft for drawspace/people to walk behind. So, on
an 9ft long(outside to outside) table, I would budget at least 24 ft of
length. Bear in mind that if you have short walls (like one that makes
a counter-top) then you can get away with a smaller space since the
stick will still have wiggle room.
