no advance notice (the Japanese gave the fellas at Pearl harbor more notice than this).
Could it be a sneak attack?
Has Alex been diligently practicing his 1pocket these last few months (years?)
what to do, what to do...?
Lou Figueroa dead out of stroke but will try some anyway :-o

Hopefully Lou can make it and school me a bit at some 1P... cheap.>
Or maybe I can get Julie to give me the 8ball and bet big.>

Needless to say, I got smoked. Lou drilled me even up at first then beat me giving me 8-6. I walked away thinking I could have played a bit better, but I still would have lost. I enjoyed it though.

As long as he didn't retire you.... Did you play him any 9 ball?

So what, in retrospect, would have been a "fair" spot?
Alex has big brass ones. He walks into my pool room, we rack them up on my table, and when I ask him what he wants to do says, "$20 a game," asks for no spot, and walks over to the wall rack to play with a house cue.
woo wee.
The first few games were a bit lopsided, so he finally broke down and asked for weight. So I asked him what he wanted and he said, "8-6 and the breaks," so that's what I gave him (MP -- please note correctted handicap for Excel spreadsheets). We seesawed a bit, but I won a couple more.
Alex plays a solid game of 1pocket and has obviously been playing someone who knows how to play because he consistently shot the right shot. I offered him the use of my SP, but he declined -- I think with his own weapon in hand, he'd be a formidable 1pocket opponent. You have been warned.

Well, I told you so. I figured that Alex needed a little spot. Now here is what I want to know...
Alex, how can you just belly up and play Lou for $20 a pop, and only give little 'ol me $10 action? : )
Anyway, sounds like you guys had some fun. Also sounds like your game is coming along Alex. I sure as hell would not want to play Lou with a house cue...that alone is equivalent to giving up at least 2 balls worth of weight. : )

Also, Lou, I didn't mean any disrespect by not accepting the offer to use your cue. I tend to get animated at times and I didn't want to bang your cue up on those lights, God knows I've done it with my Southwest plenty of times.
No problem -- I understood where you were coming from on that and I appreciate it. The lights there are a bit low and every day there you can hear a few "dwings" as pool shafts get raised into the brass rims of the lights leaving nice ugly dents.

Alex <--- no longer dragging around big brass ones.>

Why can't the rooms fix this problem? How hard would it be to add a soft rubber edging to the light fixture? They could get the rubber by replacing that crappy stuff that Brunswick uses on their pockets. You know....that rubber that sticks to your shaft if you try and bridge over the pockets.

Lou, I was talking with Jim Buss awhile back while having tips replaced and I asked him if I could often find you over at the C&C. He said not since you had been barred for the above mentioned "comments". Where might a soul bump into you now in the St. Louis area?
I'm at Chesterfield Billiards now. It's a straight shot down 64/40W to Clarkson Road (left at the end of the exit) and a left into the mall at the second or third light.
I've heard from several of the regulars there that the tables at C&C have gotten even worse (hard to imagine). But for some reason, nobody has the guts to complain
