Diamond Drill

Bob Keller 4 April 2008 20:24:10

Karen Corr's WPBA profile says that her favorite practice is the "diamond
drill". Anybody have an idea what she may be referring to?

Potato digging Mick ???? If you would care to explain that remark this poor
dumb Irish lad face to face I would be glad to listen to your explanation
before explaining to you how the Irish who were enslaved, starved, and
murdered by the English object to your terminology. And what might your
ancestry be ?

Sure, it was taught to me by the same person who taught it to her, the
Great One, and made her what she is today, that one, and the drill of
doom. The lassie was just a potato digging Mick nobody and when she
got it, she went on a rampage. It will take you to a place where you
cannot believe. You can hit any square inch of the table from a
straight in shot into the side by using no english, none, which I
thought was impossible, until it was revealed to me. These are of
course, the two most closely guarded inner secrets of the pros, that
they do no want you bangers knowing about. And of course the POL
aiming system. I got all 3 at the same time, took 2 full days to
absorb it all. Best dime I ever spent. Within a year, that dime made
10.

Charlie,

The person you are responding to has a long history of insanity on this
newsgroup. Most everyone here has blocked him. Any response of any kind
only encourages him. If you block him then noone here ever sees anything he
writes. He is completely impotent.

I think the Diamond Drill is just the one where you line up over the
middle diamond on the end rail, shoot to the middle diamond on the other
end rail, and have the CB come back to your tip.

But I could be wrong on this.

 Word? What word?

I was practicing one day when an old guy was teaching some youngsters a
drill. He called it the diamond drill
http://CueTable.com/P/?@4AORC4BANG3COBI3DNyX4EOPW4FATW4GGyx4HVLx3IGrC3JUex3KUML3LGhM4MHOK4NUdM1ObXY4YOPW1YbHH1jbXY1jbCu@4AORC4BANG3COBI3DNyX1EbHH4FATW4GGyx4HVLx3IGrC3JUex3KUML3LGhM4MHOK4NUdM1ObCu1YbHH1Yals4iUdM1iaxo@4AORC4BANG3COBI3DNyX1Eals4FATW4GGyx4HVLx3IGrC3JUex3KUML3LGhM4MHOK1NbGo1ObCu4aATW1abGY1aWWY1ibGo1ibSq@4AORC4BANG3COBI3DNyX1Eals1FWWY4GGyx4HVLx3IGrC3JUex3KUML3LGhM4MHOK1NbSq1ObCu1aWWY1abrn4hHOK1hWGH5hXlM1hYsX@4AORC4BANG3COBI3DNyX1Eals1Fbrn4GGyx4HVLx3IGrC3JUex3KUML3LGhM1MYsX1NbSq1ObCu4UORC1UYkI1hYsX1hdGp@
or http://tinyurl.com/ysq4co

Use the balls at the bottom of the table as a cueball... hit them towards
the lonely ball at the top of the table, stunning the "cueball"... then
use that as your next object ball.
Hit the 15 balls in no particular order.

No idea if this is the right drill or not, but he called it the same name.

The Diamond Drill according to Karen:

"Put all the balls on the rail next to the diamonds. Top rail has two balls
on it and foot rail one ball on it. It helps with rail shots."

Thanks Bob. There is actually a game made out of this in Honduras, where it
is the standard Pool game there. It's like Rotation, where you score points
for the number on the ball and they have to be shot in order, only the balls
are laid out on the rail by each diamond.

There's a video of this on this being played on my friend Mikie's blog here:

http://poolshooter.blogspot.com/search?q=honduran#top

I've played Mikie and the initmitable "El Maestro" this game once and even
managed to run 4 balls at one point. It's an entirely evil game, but great
practice.

Another great variation of this I find great for Straight-pool or 8-ball
practice is to line up 9 balls on the diamonds nearest the corner pockets
and then setup two clusters of 3 balls in the middle of each end of the
table. Give yourself ball-in-hand and try and run the table. Make sure you
don't leave any dead combos in the clusters as the idea is to force you to
play break-out shots from the rail shots.

There is very large hispanic population here in Denver. Every night in the
pool halls you can see a bunch of guys in cowboy hats playing this game.
It's very much a slop game (at least how they play it) and is very
entertaining!

I'm missing something here, and this sounds like a great practice
scenario. The problem I have is that my table has four corners. If I
set a ball at each diamond nearest each corner, I used 8 balls. You
indicate 9. Where does the ninth one go?
