Ouch. I'm not going out on that limb, even if both bolt. 7-9 is as bad as it's gonna get; let's not forget the rest of the ACC (minus Duke) is gonna get worse, too.

I'm just glad Roy's a good coach. I don't expect anything like the 8-20 year.

When the soldiers came home from Vietnam - American spats on them. Then - when the soldiers came home from Desert Storm - a comparative walk in the desert - we had parades for them.
They were the same soldiers - the American people were so ashamed of how they acted the first time - they went overboard the second time to heap praise on them for winning a one week war.
American soldiers slugged it out in Vietnam for 10 years - Congress wouldn't allow our generals to win that war.
If Roy falters - the Carolina fans won't treat him as badly because they are ashamed of what they did to Doherty. Also - you don't have another Judas waiting in the wings to take Roy's place. You guys are stuck with ol good ol.
Doherty was not the problem at UNC. Matt fixed the mess dean/gutridge left. The team Matt built won the NCAA thingy this year. shame on the UNC fans on what they did to him - begged him to leave ND - coach of year - then hang him as a scapegoat.

Yeah, Desert Storm troops were smokin' doobies, growing their hair long, fragging officers, and slaughtering civilians. I don't mean to condemn *all* the poor slobs and heros who endended up in Vietnam, but jeez Harry, you are dumber than a basketball.

Dear Edward - I love when you talk dirty to me It is so much fun when one can crank up a pretend intellectual liberal to resort to intolerance and calling others names simply because they disagree about "basketball." I love you Ted Harry PS - By the way you have me confused again - which team do you like? - Duke or UNC? - you can't have both Hello in there?

Yeah. But if they both bolt they'll be returning what...4-5 minutes per game or so of college experience*? 5-11 is factoring in both a good crop of freshmen and a down league... ;)

That may in fact be a real number. At any rate, I get your point. There are some parallels between Carolina '05 and Duke '99; no need for anyone to remind me that we didn't actually win the championship that year, but we did lose the bulk of our team, as UNC is about to do. We did just fine in '00 despite the doomsayers, and while I think we lost a little less and gained a little more in our recruiting class than UNC, Roy can still coach and the rest of the league ain't exactly top-notch. I have trouble envisioning 5-11, but goddamn would I ever love it.

Not even close. Noel got 17 mpg (and a whopping 4 ppg). They actually returning about 40 mmp, which is still a huge dent out of a total 200 mpg. Even worse, as you obviously sensed, when most of the minutes are garbage tiime.
When you account for the fact that 7 players are scoring a nice spread of 1.6-3.8 minutes, and two more average 4.5 and 6.3, all you have returning is 2-3 role players and a bunch of scrubs.
At any rate, I get your point. Losing your top seven scorers is pretty frickin' devastating.
Nobody except Roy Williams has any idea how good UNC will be next year. Toast is a serious possibility. 8-20 is probably a real stretch though. An NCAA bid would mean the freshman class is on par with the Fab Five.

Making a radical off-season change in your woofing strategy, Ted?

The levity of the situation is dependent upon who is devastated. But yes, this situation is hilarious.

Making a radical off-season change in your woofing strategy, Ted?
No. The Fab Five had decent upperclass support. If UNC gets to the Sweet 16, those Cardinals just elected the wrong Pope.

That's cold. And I think not entirely true. Looking at the past laundry list of big men taken way early from college and/or from high school, I don't see many that would have dominated Sean. Well, not from the last few years, anyway.
There's something to be said for finely polished fundamental skills. The boy has awesome footwork combined with very good hands and is smart.

Hi Tadam -
In order to lose the championship game you must first get into it. To me getting into the championship game is the sign of a winner. Like Duke winning six of the last 7 ACC championship games. There are a lot of folks that would like those choking odds.
I admire Williams for sticking around. I also admire and respect the four UNC guys for going pro. They are smart taking advantage of a market that will not be there next year.
We will see if Roy can do as good a job next years as K did this year in a similar circumstance.
