I think Patton said - "Victory is fleeting."

Yeah, well, you can chant that all the way across
The Great Sports Desert, into next season, and all
the way through the 2006 tournament.

Thanks.

It was strange to see the sports press grab onto that notion and cling
to it Sat-Mon. I agree with Hewitt. They were looking for an angle,
found a very bad one, and could not let it go.

I liked McCants' response to the question (I think Sunday) "Can you
give us some evidence of UNC's teamwork?" (question paraphrased)

Instead of pointing out that UNC led the nation in assists or pointing
to some other indicator, he just said, "We're here."

Let me rephrase: I'm generally not a fan of his when he's talking in a
press conference.

I think he's a great coach and I respect him. But I also think he gets a
little too political in his interviews. He's always got some spin. Just
bugs me. He says what's on his mind, which I tend to like, but some of his
stuff seems a little planned and carefully worded.

BTW, I don't recall if I mentioned this or not, but I saw Skip Prosser at
the Budweiser brewery tour on Sunday. Twice. Was less than two feet from
him, in fact. Didn't speak, though. I'm sure he's approachable, but in
absence of anything much to say, I figured I'd let him have his peace.

You know, the GSD doesn't seem so bad right now.

what?! how can you not like his "what's this Yao vs Shaq. that's tennis,
not basketball" comment?!

j00 r r4c15t! i do agree that he tends to have a strong political
agenda, but since i don't disagree too strongly with him (i do admit at
times it does go a little overboard), i find it a lot more tolerable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying GT fans should hate him, nor anyone
else. I don't even hate him. I just don't like his agenda in press
conferences. Even little things like how he hyped Louisville in the
pre-game press conference for that game with "oh, we thought it was a toss
up for whether they'd get a one or a two seed" and blah blah blah. Never
said they shouldn't be playing Louisville at that point in the tournament,
but that's what he was implying, certainly. Just irks me.

But he seems like a great guy off the court and definitely a great coach
*on* the court. Obviously there were some issues with the current team
that he couldn't overcome, but I honestly believe that can happen to ANY
coach (Dean couldn't gel the 1994 squad, for instance, and we've seen
plenty other examples of that with other coaches).

I honestly hope UVa gets a coach of at least Hewitt's caliber. Doubt it'll
happen, but it would be nice if it did.

I find it amusing that the boosters at UVA put the pressure on the AD
not to go after Davey Odom. What makes them think that a coach would
leave a real program to come there?

For the past 20 year - George Welsh produced UVA a string of 7-4
seasons. The boosters were not satisfied and expected more from his
replacement. There are some places where you can't produce a 10-1 season
without cheating.

UVa is a nice campus - and a great school - but it seems almost
impossible to produce a champion there in football or basketball.

Davey Odom is a good coach.
