UNC + Referees 40 Illinois 27 at the Half

Mimus 5 April 2005 06:12:26
This is the worst- officiated, and most one- sidedly poorly-
officiated, game that I can remember:

You can safely give the referees 12 points of the UNC lead.

No doubt that the officiating is way in UNC's favor...but Illinois
don't have any sort of answer for anything and the players clearly
don't believe they can win. And of course...just like I've been
saying the whole tournament...Illinois has finally died by the three.

Our best chance was to have Villanova get beat but the refs saw to it
that one didn't happen either.

Hmm, Carolina with 7 fouls, Illi with 6. I don't see it.

Jesus H. Christ.

Illinois wins by 3, or 7.

Without the refs.

It *was* more balanced in the second half, with UI getting away with a
face- rake-- should've been a foul-- and some moving screens, but that
margin from the first half was decisive.

And I didn't even notice what had been happening to Augustine, which
was totally gross.

Disheartening. Just very disheartening.

So long, 'til November.

It was no different from last year's officiating. Just replace May with
Okafor.

I don't know what game you watched, but it apparently wasn't the same one I
did.

Granted: the foul calls on Augustine were ticky-tacky. However, Illinois
entire offense was built on illegal screens and picks, not a single one of
which were called. I didn't see any particular favoritism, but I'll agree
the officiating was lousy.

Are the two options mutually exclusive?

I dunno. Maybe, maybe not. Do you make a meaningful distinction between
people who just act like idiots and actual, bona fide idiots?

There's no way they are going to let the National Championship be
a blow out. That is where it was heading before the moving screens
were not called.

That's why they didn't call all those moving screens by Duke against UNLV in
'90.

I notice that no one comments on the subject matter of my post - the> 10-14 illegal/moving screens Illinois was not called for in the 2nd> half. That's fine, you can hide behind my demeanor if you like.

Okay, I'll play ...

Whether a screen is legal is a pretty simple call, assuming that one
a). knows the applicable rules; and b). clearly sees the play.

Thus, anyone with a tape who wants to go back and mark the time at
each of these (un)calls, please do so and post them here.

I never did D-1 but put two decades of prep officiating under my belt
and have the NCAA rules at hand, will review ...

Anything to get past bickering ...

regards - rdw

Your demeanor tells us everything we need to know about you. You might have a
shred of credibility if your first post had come sometime before Jan 28, and
wasn't a self-congratulatory crowing over a Maryland loss. In short, you have
absolutely no claim whatsoever to objectivity.

We have all seen your ilk a hundred times before. You are a woofing,
front-running little yipper of absolutely no consequence whatsoever. You
wouldn't know original thought if it jumped up and fucked you in the ear.
You're a U$C fan during football season and a Miami fan during baseball
season.

You probably don't even know where to find a copy of the official rulebook,
and I'd be surprised if you had ever actually read it, so your whining about
moving screens isn't anything special. The fact remains that you're the only
one bitching about it.

Well, you and Billy Packer. So there's that.

I can't figure out whether you were responding to the Kentucky
fan, the Texas fan, or myself (a MSU fan). I can tell you are
an idiot.

I haven't seen a single known Illinois fan whining here. I am one, and
in my opinion the game was very winnable and Illinois flat didn't do it.
Carolina is tough, and Illinois wasn't tougher.

They let us back in the game with poor third-quarter shot selection, but
then made some plays at the end. If we had shot a little better, I think
it might have been different.

WRT the officiating, it wasn't great but it went both ways. As far as
Augustine goes, he richly deserved to foul out because he was reaching
without playing position. At least three out of five of his fouls were
ones that are called most every time, i.e. hitting the man with the ball
on the arm. One was a blatant pushoff with the hand. The charge seemed a
bit unfair considering what May got away with, but even that was the
proper call.

Nice try champ. Hope that was fun.

At the end of the day, you're still the same clueless, bandwagon-hopping
newbie who will disappear in two weeks, and you still don't have a viable
argument.

You look stupid arguing with that blank wall over by the bathroom. Try
exercising a bit of self-awareness.

It's not the fact that you never posted here before that bothers people,

And given that every team uses those self-same screens to some degree,
it is really not much of an argument.
