I know it's not just you, but it grates on me to see this faux Indian/Paki
broken English employed by native speakers. It smacks me as racist.

Why exactly is this suppposed to be funny?

Apu, on 'The Simpsons', uses the phrase with the polite word 'please'
even when the situation is too urgent to use 'please'. 'Please to be
not stabbing me', for example.

As I read it's use here, for the most part, it's to indicate that
whatever is being requested is vitally important[1] and beyond the
requester's control. Of course ICBVW.

Anyway, it's easy enough to cut it out, so I will try to from now on.

[1] scope of 'vitally important' limited to basketball

Thank you for enlightening me. I guess if it's enshrined on "The
Simpsons", it is somewhat legitimate as a social icon. It's risky,
as all ethnically stereotyping humor is.

Fine by me. It amuses me that anyone would elevate this to 'caving'
status, let alone rate it highly.

Indeed, in Polish (and in some other languages, I gather), the syntax
of polite requests *is* <please> [not] <infinitve>, eg., please not to smoke.

Once one realizes that stereotypes don't hurt anything but feelings (and that
most of them contain at least a grain of truth, anyway), then can actually be
pretty funny.

A stupid system that works the way it's supposed to is still a stupid system.

Right. Just because they condition people to
believe those stereotypes (it's worked on you) doesn't
mean they're harmful to society.
