I thought the benefit of having a #1 seed (as a fan) was that you
could take off the first game. Sigh...

I have to compliment the CBS commentators for this game for their unusually
trenchant commentary breaking down what Delaware State is trying to do to
Duke. Most of the commentary in the games I have seen has been unremarkable.

They yanked us from the Wisconsin/Northern Iowa game to show us this one.
So far -- I agree with Geoff -- pretty entertaining, although Delaware State
is turning the ball over excessively now at the end of the first half...

C'mon, earlier you were complaining that none of the games were close!

One thing you can take to the bank is that among the 1/16 and 2/15 games,
whether the higher seed wins by 8 or by 28 rarely has much bearing on how
they fare in the rest of the tourney. Sure, you'd rather win by 28 most of
the time, but not playing great and still winning by 8 or more isn't too
much to worry about.

K will right the ship.

Agreed. But I still wanted to relax!

Average score of 1-16 games: 85.5-60.4

Arguably, the 16 seeds might be at least marginally better. The odds
that you'll get two really, unbelievably crappy teams among the 16
seeds is reduced because the two worst teams are shipped off to the
play-in game, and only one survives. The rest of the 1 seeds won't be
as abysmal. Of the remaining 16 seeds, you'll have one that might
have been a 15 seed in years past, and the others might be a
significant step up from the worst teams that played in the play-in
game.

Just a thought, though it would be interested to see how craptacular
the 16 seeds have been since the play-in game versus beforehand.

Maybe the thing to do (when someone has time) is to find out the RPI > ratings (or some other rating) for all the 16 seeds and see if there's > any pattern to be noticed there.

I have that, but only back to 92-93. Next year, maybe.
