The Reality of MVP Voting

John LaVoy 10 May 2005 18:57:14
All you guys are trying to divide this into an either or situation, but that
is just not a relaistic way of looking at it. The reality is that both Shaq
and Nash were very deserving of the award. For that matter, so was Iverson,
and so too were a handful of others. I would have voted for Iverson myself,
but I have no problem with Nash as the pick.

The Suns went from 29 wins to 62 wins, one of the largest turn arounds in
history. It was completely unexpected and virtually everyone on the Suns
gave the credit for the turnaround to Nash. The Miami surge, with the
addition of Shaq, was completely expected. Shaq had nothing apporaching his
best year. Therein, probably, lies the difference. But the difference is
slim and both could easily have taken home the MVP award.
