My mother went to Duke. My father went to Duke. My sister has *two* degrees from Duke. I used to work at Duke. I used to volunteer at Duke. I don't exactly hate Duke. I used to be pleased by the emphasis they placed on getting their athletes to graduate. But then I started paying attention to what thugs they are on the basketball court and what absurd deference the referees pay to them. It's sort of like watching the referees step back and watch the Jordan-era Bulls do whatever they wanted. Consequently, I'm less thrilled with Duke than I used to be, and become even less so the more I look.

SATs were *plenty* high enough. My grades *sucked*. Duke won't let people in who have 2.77 high school GPAs unless they're 300 pounds and can run the 40 in 3.9 seconds flat.
