I think '79 Indiana State did this, but (a) I think it was in the regular season (it did keep their undefeated record going), and (b) they lost in the final to Michigan State.
In 98 KY had to come from way behind to beat Duke. Brad "Tim923" <t923_1@yahoo.com> wrote in message news:cmrh31574u7vcjvi5vp1mubkibi4l6pgd2@4ax.com...> The ones I can think of:>

In 1983 they were down by 6 points in overtime with 1:09 left and Pepperdine's best free throw shooter on the line for 1 and 1. Remember this was prior to the 3 point line. They won it in a second overtime. That was the first round. They had a last second shot in the second round to be UNLV. The weather a scoring attempt by Virginia in the regional semifinals.
In 1974 they were behind UCLA in overtime in the final four, but I don't remember how much.

Both of Carolina's modern runs:
'82, second round vs. James Madison, 52-50
'93, regional final vs. Cincinnati. Tie score, last play of the game, Derrick Phelps tosses an alley-oop inbounds pass from under the basket to Brian Reese who goes up for a dunk and misses. UNC then wins in overtime.

It proves that not only do you have to get hot to win the tourney but you have to be lucky. NC State went to triple OT in '83 in round 1 didn't they? You need lots of luck.

Also in the 1957 championship run, Carolina had a 74-70 triple overtime win against Michigan State in the Semi-finals, as well as the 54-53 triple overtime win against Kansas in the finals.

UNC '82...just *barely* got by James Madison. To lazy to look it up, but think it was 2 or 4 points.
