Observation on Duke-haters

Johnny 18 March 2005 03:52:02
Some Duke-haters not only hate Duke, but hate anyone who
likes Duke. Now that is a paranoid phobia in the 1st degree.

--Johnny <=Doesn't hate anyone, just likes some better than
others and leaves the lesser-liked alone if they leave him

OK, OK, deep breath..............

OK, here's what Donnie was trying to say. No one on this group
"hates" anyone else because of the team they support. Generally
speaking, for the last couple of years the people here have gotten
along pretty well. We will have spirited debates, and matters can get
a bit touchy a time, but threads here generally do not devolve into
massive flame wars. Even the comments directed towards Larry and
Harry are less borne of "hatred" and more mere annoyance. If you hung
around here for a while, you'd notice this. It wasn't always this
way, but it is now.

The key to enjoying yourself here is to lighten up. This is not a
serious forum and no one's life or liberty is on the line here, so you
don't need to get all worked up about how everybody hates the team you
root for and by extension hates you.

That said, I do hate Donnie. Or maybe that emotion I'm feeling is
jealousy? A few dozen hours in his TV room during the first few
rounds of the tournament could probably help me figure that out. How
about it Donnie?

Harry seems to be No. 1 on that list at present. :-)

At least I am number 1 at something - just like Duke is number 1 in the
ACC winning 6 out of the last 7 REAL championships! This year UNC will
be number 1 in the number of players that enter the NBA draft. Next year
they will be number 1 in the number of players that go from a "pretend
prison" to a "real prison."

For the record Harry does not hate anyone - on this group or anywhere.
Life is too short to hate anyone. Mohammed Ali said "I got no beef with
those Vietnamese." It is amazing how many people will hate something
based on what the media tells them.

Harry is just too excited waiting for the NCAA games to start tomorrow.
Do you know what is best about the NCAA playoffs - 63 LOSERS!

Go Duke! Go Donnie! Go Starheel! Go to h*ll Carolina!
Love

harmlessly funny. He's half right.

Huh? I guess I see your problem now. You think anyone that debates you
hates you. I honestly have no problem with you nor Harry. I don't agree
with too terribly much of what either of you say, but that doesn't mean I
hate you. You may want to take a look at the inner self if you want to
dissect some insecurities. *shrug*

"Am I that poaster?"

Fortunately for you dookies, even if you are a bad one, there are

Keep in mind that something is starting Thursday that will result in 64
losers. There is only one winner of the NCAA tournament - that means that
most of us will be sad before this is all over.

Then it's all over until next fall. Kind of puts it all in perspective.

I normally don't express a wish for other teams to lose. However, since
most fans leave here after their teams lose, maybe I want his to.

Here's the ACC COY voting, in case you missed it:

Seth Greenberg, Virginia Tech, 58
Roy Williams, North Carolina, 33
Mike Krzyzewski, Duke, 15
Frank Haith, Miami, 14
Skip Prosser, Wake Forest, 1

So Roy doubled up coach K, he didn't just get "one more vote."

There a lot of real tough guys like you on the newsgroups - because they
can be tough hiding behind a keyboard. Do you really think "not backing
down from punks" calling them names is macho? No - finding out their
address and going to meet them personally and punching them in the nose
- that is macho. I live at 1607 Seminole Drive, Tallahassee, FL - come
on over - I have a really big nose - almost like Rudolph :-)
I doubt that I will have many visitors - by the way - I am an old guy
lacking wisdom too :-)
If "ad hominem" means what I think it means - you should see my wife -
she could turn any guy "not ad homiem." :-)
Lighten up - bro - stop woofing from the porch.

[ snip a lot of blah blah blah ]>
Here's the ACC COY voting, in case you missed it:>
Seth Greenberg, Virginia Tech, 58> Roy Williams, North Carolina, 33> Mike Krzyzewski, Duke, 15> Frank Haith, Miami, 14> Skip Prosser, Wake Forest, 1

Why did Roy Williams get so many more votes than Skip Prosser? Both had
similar schedules and finished one game apart in the conference. And
since the voting is done before the tournament, you can't count UNC's
one extra win from there.

Maybe it was because the hype wasn't there later in the season for Wake
Forest (ever since the Illinois loss). UNC does have more talent on
their squad than Wake Forest does (both are very talented though), so
that should balance out the one game difference. I mention the talent,
because the award is frequently awarded to the coach who is perceived to
have "overachieved" the most.

Hard to say. Perhaps it is because UNC won the ACC Regular Season
Championship and Wake didn't. :)

While I agree you typically have to overachieve, the fact is Skip neither
overachieved nor underachieved. And he didn't win anything. Hence major
voting swing on a not-so-major difference. *shrug*

I'm surprised K didn't get more votes than he did, personally.

Coach of the Year for Roy - perhaps because a banner year for UNC is
when they have a home on home split with a Duke cinderella rebuilding
team that was stripped by the NBA. A banner year for UNC because they
beat the 2005 ACC Champs by two at the smith center. I think they gave
the same award to Doherty - the year he split with Duke. Coach of the
Year for playing an unbalanced schedule that required them to not play
home on home with the ACC powers. Meanwhile K beats Carolina 15 out of
18 times - wins the real ACC championship 6 out of 7 times - and this
year takes a rag tag bunch of upstarts to the win the 2005 ACC title.
The Coach of the Year in the ACC is a beauty contest. K did not get the
award because he looks like a "rat."

Good point. Championships mean a lot to the voters.
I'm surprised K didn't get more votes than he did, personally.

He probably would have won it had Duke won the ACC regular season.
Frank Haith probably deserved some votes. I read somewhere that Miami
improved more than VaTech did.

He should have gotten them all just for healing Dockery's knee,
much less get a one seed after his team was fragged.
