Perhaps no player had a rougher night than forward Kwame Brown, who had two points on 1-of-6 shooting and was lustily booed late in the third quarter. The fans' disgust was so loud that Jordan had to lift his arms to calm down the crowd.
"We're trying to encourage him and they're dissing him," Arenas said. "He don't want to get booed, so he don't want to do nothing. It's like the fans are hurting his confidence. He's not going to be perfect. They're not giving him a chance. They need to understand, you just can't boo the man."
Brown said the boos didn't bother him. "Who cares? I've been through worse stuff than that," he said. "Booing me? I feel I played hard, I just didn't hit shots."
Agreed. Kwame has show nothing. Sure he had a couple of big games last year, but they are few and far between. He looks clueless on offense most of the time. He loses his man on defense. He's not a natural rebounder who does not meet the ball at the highest point in his jump - effectivley making him smaller than his height. He clearly has the physical ability to dominate - he's quick, has good shooting touch, and is very strong. However, does he have the heart and desire to be an NBA player. To me he just looks like another sleepy southern kid who played ball because he was tall. I think if you want to thrive in the NBA, you really have to live to play ball.
Unless he can start to produce down the stretch and in the playoffs, it'd be time to move on. I wouldn't go hard at him with a contract - I'd let him test the waters and see what he gets offered. I've read the GM's around the league are mixed on him. I'm sure some won't break the bank for him and some will. I just hope the Wiz aren't one of the teams that do. They do need to break the bank for Hughes though.
