Scoring question

Guest 4 April 2008 07:50:38
I look at the MLB website for the New York Yankees often. When they
show the stats for a game their is a column called LOB. Yesterday
Bubba Crosby batted 5 times but the LOB column showed 7. What does
that mean?

He left 7 men stranded on base after his at-bats.

7 of the pitches were lobbed to him and he still couldn't hit one.

In today's Stanford - Long Beach game Austin Yount came in
as a pinch-hitter DH. (Mark Marquess has started filling in
a pitcher's name as DH, then pinch-hitting for him in the
first at bat.) In the fourth inning Yount took over as
pitcher. I understand that Stanford loses their DH
(temporarily, as it happens -- Yount was pulled, sat on the
bench for a while, then re-entered the game at DH). But
while he was pitching the scoreboard listed his position as
EF. Anyone know what EF stands for? Thanks. - Tony

I have always seen EF as Extra Fielder, but that is in games where it
was softball and 10 fielders were allowed on the field.

I don't know what it would mean to be an Extra Fielder in a game where
only 9 fielders are allowed on the field.
