1) What is the best PC baseball game for this year? 2) I currently have MVP 2004. It's pretty good. I was wondering if anybody knows if there are any mods for this season so I can bring the rosters up to date?
Thanks!

If you're talking text-based, it depends what you want to pay for. Diamond Mind is considered the best, while Out of the Park is probably the best value. OOTP was just bought by the European firm that does Championship Manager, though, so they haven't released a 2005 game yet...the 2004 one is still really good.

I love Diamond Mind. Excellent game. Haven't even bothered to try any others in several years.

Does the MVP series have a "manage only" mode?>
K.
Yes. I'm not very sure I like it though. I would prefer a game that was really meant to be "manage only" then a graphical game that just adds one on...

High Heat was known for having the best pitcher-batter interface. Unfortunately, after HH2004 (I think), 3d0 stopped making the game and sold the rights to MS. MS has since sold the rights to someone else-not sure who. The future of it being revived at all in the near-term is dim, since beginning next year Take Two has an exclusive license for MLB games aside from the console makers (i.e., Sony can make a licensed game, but EA cannot). EA may still put out a game, at least for the PC, and rely on users to fix all of the names, but we'll see I guess.
I haven't played a game since HH 2002, which I liked a lot, with any regularity. I bought HH 2004, but 3d0 made an absolutely terrible decision to port the game from a console and not add mouse support. Navigating the menus was torture, especially with the crappy gamepad I had, and I never got into it. So I can't really give you a first-hand opinion on the current games, but from what I've heard MVP 2005 seems to be the best.

It does, but not as good as High Heat Baseball had. In MVP 2004, you can manage, but the game doesn't use the glitzy graphics engine, instead it uses a simple 2D baseball diamond schematic with sound effects. In High Heat Baseball, the full graphics engine was available in manage-only mode. This was great because it was like watching a game on TV but you called the shots.
How does MVP 2005 handle manage mode?

Just to note, HH 2004 did not have manage only mode I think. So if you are looking into an old game with manage only, you'd have to get HH 2003 or earlier.
Second, I found a neat site for MVP mods. Here is the link: www.mvpmods.com
Third, I am trying PureSim 2K5. This is also a neat baseball sim. Good stuff with a long demo period to fully evaluate the game. www.puresim.com

Yeah, that sounds right. It probably was HH2003.
In view of that fact, I am glad I never purchased HH2004! What a stupid change!

Hopefully, Take-2 will go back to the 2003 managerial mode of HH.

PureSim is very good---especially if you are a hard-core baseball fan (i.e., love loads of statistics, etc.). The game has some neat ideas as well, such as generating a newspaper that allows you to follow all the news in your league as well as other leagues. The only drawback to the game is that all the teams/players are fictitious, but, of course, you can mod it to include real teams.
Check out the demo at the website. It is free and not that big a download even for 56kers like me.

I thought HH was the best baseball series, no question. But 2004 was just plain awful. There was more wrong with it than there was right. 2002, IMO, was the best.

OTOH, HH2004 for the PS2 was great.
(Hmm. That last sentence was a little acronym-happy. Let me try again.)
OTOH, IIRC, HH2004 for the PS2 was AOK, IMHO. YMMV.

Hmm. I have HH 2003 and I guess I'll stick with it. I think the full in-game manage mode is the best part of the game. I have HH 2002, also, but I think the physics in 2003 are a bit more refined.
