I only see 8 for Wilhelm, in which case he's tied with Gaylord Perry.>

It says major league teams... can we really count the 58-62 Orioles, the post WWII Indians, the post WW I Cubs, the post 1960 White Sox, or the pre-2000 Angels. By my count that's only 4 major league teams....

The White Sox averaged 89 wins a year those six years.

Just enough to lure in fans, but not enough to actually win. Point >taken... that adds a second team to his MLB credentials....
Cleveland was mediocre (i.e., .500) the two seasons he was there, but they averaged 89 wins a year in the three seasons before and three seasons after. And five of those six were 154-game seasons.

Why? Almost every team could use an average pitcher, as the average pitcher bumps a bad pitcher from the roster.

Players decline over time. Most players who have had major-league careers of over 20 years started as great performers and gradually declined to replacement level. Morgan started as an average pitcher, but he didn't decline as quickly as most players do, so he lasted longer than many pitchers who were better than him. The thing that's interesting about Morgan is that he stayed average for so long.

You'd think every team would want a good pitcher, as the good pitcher> bumps an average pitcher from the roster.
How many teams can afford to bump an average pitcher with a roster? Has any team ever had 11 hurlers with ERA+s of 100 or better? Very few teams (if any) want to lose average pitchers and if they do, other teams will quickly gobble them up.

Theo 1979 Orioles didn't, because they didn't have 11 pitchers (if you don't count Flinn and Rineer, who got September cups of coffee). Ford, who had a 191 ERA+, was only on the team for while because one of their 9-man staff was on the DL.
The worst ERA on the team (out of all 12 pitchers who took the mound even once) was 3.66. Other than the Orioles, the best *TEAM* ERA in the league was 3.83.
You'd think some of their success was attributable to fielding, but how much> Ken Singleton was the every-day right fielder. Belanger was past his prime and no longer the regular.

Sorry, the worst ERA on the team was 3.77. Still better than any other team's average.
